Properly accounting for calories in an olive oil based marinade??

Quote  |  Reply

I've searched the boards to try and figure this out on my own but I haven't found anything that I'm confident in for the olive oil based marinade.

So I have a greek marinade that I use for grilled pork and when I enter the info into the "new recipe" I'm hit with something like 70 grams of fat! Which I can't believe is right- at least I hope not, I love this dish.

If anyone can help me out with this, and advise on how to do this in the future, I'm be very grateful!

TIA!!!

Rachel

Servings: 2-3

400 grams boneless pork sirloin, fat removed

3 tbs olive oil

2 tbs red wine vinegar

2 tbs lemon juice

3 cloves garlic, chopped

2 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried thyme

This is a difficult question.  It all depends on how much of that olive oil is actually left on the pork.  The other ingredients have very little calories.  Personally, I'd just include the 350 or so calories in the olive oil.  The count would be over, but not by much.  That would be a total of 40.5 grams of fat for the olive oil.  So the rest of the fat is from the meat itself.

when you take the meat out of the marinade, estimate how much of your 3 tablespoons are left and only count the net amount.

Thanks! I'm going to try and change things around...see if I can cut the fat a little bit.
