Hi
I am working on gaining weight (currently have a BMI of 17.1). I play sports at a serious level and also do a lot of weight training. I usually eat 2300-2700 each day and have maintained my weight this year. I eat quite normally I would say, trying to get 110+ grams of protein each day to help build muscle along with the weight training I do.
This sounds really silly now that I'm typing it but the thing that makes it hard for me to really truly WANT to put on weight is my bum. I have skinny legs and arms (although now with much more muscle than before) and stomach but I seem to put build muscle REALLY easily in my bum !! This wouldn't be too bad but it also seems to store fat there too! It looks out of proportion to my legs and I am quite self conscious about it. I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and what happened if they put on weight? I know I need to but I don't want my bum to get even bigger!!
I'm sure you have a very nice, proportionate bum. Its just that having an eating disorder makes you exaggerate things and it distorts your body image. I know its hard to believe, but when you gain weight your body will distribute it wherever it needs to go, it won't all just stick in one spot forever. It will go to your organs, your muscles, wherever your body needs it. I know its hard, but try not to judge yourself for your fear or let it hold you back. Its okay to be afraid, but you jsut have to accept that you are scared and keep going.
One more thing - Be proud of your bum! I wish I had one.
Hey there - I carry MY weight in my butt too! I do not have big hips, and my legs and arms are the LAST place to gain weight!
My breasts and butt store the most weight.
When I had a BMI of 17 or less and I gained weight to where I am now at a BMI of 18.7, my butt did NOT look ANY bigger!
Don’t worry, as a personal trainer I recommend doing LOTS of squats, I do this and my butt is toned and firm, instead of flabby!
Honestly though, if you do squats and walk up hills, and try to walk up as many stairs as you can when you get the chance, then your butt will be the best it can be!
With a BMI of 17, gaining to a BMI of 18.5 - 19 will NOT make a visual difference to your butt, only YOU will notice a difference, I can guarantee no one else will!
do half an hour of lifiting weight 3-4 days a week or so. from gaining weight and being a 105-106 5'6 with a D cup size bra. im getting the body of a pornstar and its awkward. hahaha but i agree with everyone else if it goes to your bum then do squats. personally im a big advocate for swimming it works out your arms and legs and core all at once. and its entirely low/no impacts it gets your blood flowing. and its so meditative. but you need to eat well for it. i do 30 minutes in the morning and am eating 4k. so you have to replenish your body well.
Thanks everyone for your help
Personaltrainer87 - thanks for that good to know that you experienced the same thing and gaining weight didn't make your bum look bigger!
Anyway I think I'm just gonna go for it - no point putting it off any longer!!
