How much protein affects weight...

Quote  |  Reply
I'm curious as to how much eating lot's of protein can affect my weight for a day. I rarely go up on the scale and last night I had edamame (which is soybeans) and I ate probably 2 cups of it *and it wasn't covered in oil either!*

but I also had a chicken breast for dinner with a little asparagus. I woke up this morning and have gained 1.8 lbs since yesterday!! :( I'm completely distraught. Does it take awhile for protein to go through your system?

I'm really hoping this didn't set me back a week!

from my experience in working in diet industry, if you see a rise on the scale you sould look at what you ate 3 days ago. As a general rule it takes 3 days to show up ont the scale and 3 days to come off the scale.  If you are up 2 days from now then I would say that is was you ate last night.
I have heard of people who need to eat at a certain level of protein intake to lose any weight.

Also I am not sure where you got the edamame but if you got it at a restaurant it is often doused in salt. Very delicious though!
haha my step mom made it, and while there was salt on it, i brushed most of it off! Maybe it is water weight....but ahhhh
Edamame packs some calories!  I did not realize so many!

I read in Nutrition Magazine yesterday that to build muscle in strength training, you should eat 1l2 your weight in protein per day!  DO YOU BELIEVE THAT?  SO, for a 236 pound person, for instnace, to build muscle in weight lifting, you should eat 118 grams of protein per day?!?!!?

That seems way excessive.

Protein tends to be high in sodium so it's probably just bloat.  Eating lots of protein in general helps your weight go down in the long run, though.
Very good to know!! that's encouraging. And it seems crazy to eat that much protein to build muscle!

Protein does go through your system a lot slower than, say, carbs.
what about tofu?  I eat the silken LIGHT stuff, but i eat like 2 .5 packs a day!!!? Is that bad?
