Protein Bars
I know they are loaded with sugar, but I haven't had more than 4 oz of shrimp today and need some protein before hitting the gym tonight.
I've tried Special K Meal bar (10g), Kashi pro/fiber bar (9g) and Fit and active bars (15g), but looking for something better...any ideas of a bar under 250 cals?
Going to the store tonight before the gym so it would really help (the idea of eating more beans, whole grains and cereal today doesn't help...I'm already pretty full).
Thanks.
Try making your own protein bars! They're pretty easy and very very yummy. They taste great so they're almost like eating candy. I slice mine into bars that are very small, and one bar is all I need.
Alton Brown's recipe is here: www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/prote in-bars-recipe/index.html
Whole Foods has everything you need and these little babies can be frozen for quite a while.
I know that doesn't help you out at the present...but this will help in the future!
Thanks, don't have a whole foods nearby, but I'll make do.
Do you know how many cals, proteins...are in the bars/the entire recipe?
Permalean Protein Bars. Low carb, low sugar, low fat.
Does anyone know if you can get Permalean products in Canada?
Clif bars make one for bodybuilders, I think it's called the Builder's Bar or something like that. I believe it's 250cals and has 20g protein. The mint chocolate one is pretty good and you should be able to find them anywhere.
Nutrilite: Organic, 200 calories, 11g protein, 4g fiber, and some totally delicious flavors!!
Why does it have to be a protein bar?
How about some plain bio yoghurt. I eat loads of the stuff. Add a little Vanilla if you find it too sharp.
It doesn't have to be a protein bar. I'm just looking to have something before my workout (I workout around 5pm and get a bit drained at the end of a long work day and need the extra boost).
What is bio yogurt? BTW, regular yogurt makes me want to puke, but fiber one yogurts taste good, but no protein (I don't think).
I purchased "balance" brand protein bars yesterday and they were pretty good. They are scored at a grade "A" on cc, but obviously the sugar is high. What can you do...
I love Zone Perfect's bars ... Fudge Graham is my fav, but the Chocolate Mint is good, too. Stats:
210 cals
7g fat
200mg sodium
90mg Potassium
23g carbs
3g fiber
15g sugar
14g protein
I love EAS bars. Just like eating a brownie. I think most of them are higher in calories than 250 though.
Luna bars (180 cal) or pure protein bars (200 cal)..both lower in sugar..high in protein
I eat South Beach Protein bars...140 calories each.
Ditto Zone Perfect. Some of the "new" (?) flavors (Double Dark Chocolate!) taste totally decadent and are only 190 calories. Loaded with all kinds of other good-for you stuff, too.
i have cottage cheese after my workouts. nonfat has only 80 cal and 15g protein for 1/2 a cup, for 200 cal worth u can get 37.5 g of protein! more than any protein bar
