Protein and Beef Jerky...

I am trying to add A LOT of protien to my diet which is currently very low.  Does any one eat a lot of beef jerky?  What about the sodium content?  What effect does excess of sodium in your diet have?

i'm not sure what the exact sodium content in it is, but i know it is fairly high. if you're normally a low-sodium eater, i'd say go for it. i eat beef jerky occasionally, but i have to be careful because i usually retain a lot of water from eating a lot of sodium.
590 mg per serving.  I have to be careful not to eat to much in the sodium department.  I think I may cut sodium elsewhere...
Can you make some homemade jerky without all the added sodium?

I love love lover jerky but I can't eat it all the time because of the salt...
I make homemade jery - turkey and beef flavored with low sodium soy sauce instead of regular.

Thanks! That is awesome.  You guys are great.
Turkey and Salmon and Beef Jerky are completely delicious.  You would never believe that they are low in calories, high in protein, and usually saturated and trans fat free (if you buy a good kind).

I've always wanted to learn how to make it on my own (because the sodium content is usually extremely high and it's also very expensive) so thanks!
look on the label for MSG, buy the jerky with out it.
Also, watch out for additives, like nitrates and nitrites.  They put those in to keep the red color, but they're really bad for you.  I don't eat any cured or smoked meats at all, but lots of people seem to like jerky, and it can be all natural.
