Protein!?!
Help! I need to increase my protein intake....but I need some suggestions for things OTHER than meats...I am not a vegetarian, but I just don't enjoy eating meat.
I need some quick snack-y things that have LOTS of protein!...any ideas??
Do you eat dairy?
I DO!
Yogurt.
Nuts.
Cheese.
Apple slices with peanut butter.
Celery (and/or carrots) with peanut butter.
Hard boiled egg.
Ricotta Cheese is awesome I like the fat free myself but it's all good in the protein realm. You can eat it with berries or any fruit really. Cottage Cheese is fantastic too. Also Kashi GoLean cereal packs a protein wallop. Nonfat yogurt is really good.
I like to take some unflavored plain fat free yogurt and mix it with a bit of Protein Powder some honey berries and some really crunchy cereal like grape nuts. This is really good for desert or after a work out. High in protein.
For dinners boca burgers rock and roll I like the original vegan ones even though I'm not vegan.
Peanut butter and other nut butters raw almonds.
I personally eat fish just no feet or feathers so if you like seafood salmon, swordfish all very good. If not forget I said that :)
All good stuff!
Greek yogurt is higher in protein
Many bread products come in higher protein too boost that
Those bars like balance or lara
Eggs or eggbeaters
String cheese
tofu, soy products come in many varieties
hummus
soy or reg milk
beans and lentils
non-fat milk and add in a scoop of whey powder.. shake it up. drink. It has lots of protein and about 200 cals depending on milk, etc.
quinoa!
Its a complete protein (all amino acids in one!). Its a tiny seed but you use it like you would any grain, like barley or buckwheat. Sweet or savoury!
How about a quinoa breakfast, (with it cooked kinda like oatmeal)...with cinnamon, and some yogurt and milk
How about quinoa for lunch? Cooked up in vege stock with some herbs, and mixed with some beans (more protein!)
Or as a side (instead of rice at dinner?)
throw it cooked in muffins like you would fiber cereal. (or pancakes?!)
I havent tried it but mix it hot with cottage cheese: a very cheesey melty protein extravaganza?
It is a super food. Look it up on WH foods!
- greek yogurt...8 oz nonfat has 120 calories and 22 gm protein!
- lowfat cottage cheese...aprox. 90 calories and 16 gm protein for 1/2 cup
- eggs are a great source of protein, and you can always just eat the egg whites
- beans (like chickpeas, etc) are a great source of protein and fiber
- Protein powders...for example, EAS protein powder has 23 gm protein for 1 scoop, which is only 1.1 oz
- veggie burgers...original boca burger is only 70 calories and has 13 gm protein
- other veggie/soy products...chick'n, hot dogs, etc (all meatless!)
When you say meat do you meat red meat?? If it does then why not go nuts with FISH or POULTRY! Fish and I are best friends! HA HA HA!! Plus fish is super good for you! But if you want protein from non-animal sources then I would recommend: Quinoa & Hempseeds. Both are complete proteins and both are plants that are so very healthy for you! Both supply tons of fiber and hempseeds are full of healthy fat!
You guys rock! Thanks!
Hemp Seeds
Goji Berries
Cottage Cheese
Whey Protein mixed with skim milk
Fish!
I third quinoa as a good way to up protean! I use my rice cooker to mine, and throw in some cumin and chili powder in the water as its cooking, that way its at least seasoned a little bit when i go for it for meals! I cook up 1 raw cup per week on sundays, then use it for the week as sides, and added to other stuff, but i don't have to wait for it to cook every time i want it!
