Too much protein
Hello everyone :)
I just read that the Recomended Daily Allowance of protein for a 19 year old is about 46g. I also read that if you eat too much protein it is stored as fat! I eat on everage more than 46g of protein in a day, do you think this could account for my skinny-fat build?
Thanks :)

Internet sources are usually unreliable, but here's what I found out on the FDA website. According to the FDA, protein (Daily Reference Values) should be 10% of your calories, and with light activity and a 2000 calorie diet that's 200 calories of protein, which would give you 50 grams of protein, not 46 (1 cal protein = 4 g of protein). It really just depends on your level of activity. (RDAs have been phased out and I'm sure there are no RDIs - the present jargon for what RDAs used to be- for protein intake).
I wouldn't worry about it too much, protein helps to sustain muscle and that's a good thing, just watch what kind of protein you're eating (high protein, high fat v. lean protein etc. - that's what got me into my skinny-fat build, but when I started eating leaner proteins and running more, it helped alot) and burn, and you'll be fine.
Good luck.
The RDA is 0.8g/kg bodyweight, And the mininmum for any adult is 50g, no matter what your bodyweight - that's simply replacement level for the protein lost through the minimum protein turnover in a sedentary adult.
For anyone non-sedentary, the protein need is much higher, up to 1.8g/kg bodyweight.
The skiny fat look comes from too few calories combined with not enough strength training, not from any particular macronutrient.
Phew thats good to know!
I allways thought protein was good so i was a little confused by what i found.
Thank you clever people :)

That has been a confusing issue for me as well. I started the Protein powder yesterday. I read the same thing and also that too much protein can cause kidney problems. I definately needed more protein in my diet, so I guess the key is moderation. I quit smoking months ago and quit drinking my wine, so I am replacing my old vices with healthy alternatives and yep..the computer will scare the tee-whiney out of you sometimes with all the different info. I am going to stick to about 100 grams of protein for now..Any thoughts??
More protein info would be greatly appreciated!
Most fitness models will take in about 1-1.5 grams of protein per lb of lean body mass. Then on season they will take 2g per lb. I am trying for that goal and I honestly get in a minimum of 100g a day. Just make sure you stay up with fiber as well otherwise you will bloat and that can really cause you to look chub. I prefer protein supplements with fiber added to help balance out. I intake about 110-120g protein/day, 24-26g fiber/day, and about 1200-1300 cals oer day. (Low fat and I try to get about 60g carbs a day from veggies and oatmeal in the am). I weigh pretty heavy but it's weird bc I see fitness models weigh about 20lbs less than I do... but yet they have the same measurements (liars perhaps?? lol). But either way I'm a size 4, 5ft 4", and I weigh 139-142lbs at any given time.
Hope that helps!! :)
