Protein for non meat-eater

Quote  |  Reply

Hey there!

Don't eat any read meat or poultry - I only eat fish.  I'm just wondering about some good sources of protein.  I am aware of beans and eggs... anything else?

Thanks a bunch!

Tofu, lentils, greek yogurt and cottage cheese... Actually a lot of dairy has protein in it.

Whey protein is great (there are non-whey proteins as well if you don't do dairy) and you can flavours that are awesome to add into smoothies.  Split peas are actually very high in protein as well.

For eggs, if you get a carton of whites, they are basically pure protein and you can eat them until you're blue in the face, add a yolk here and there for some fats (and that makes you feel less like you're eating 'diet' food) and you're good.

Have you tried quinoa? It has a lot of protein in it. There are some good recipes out there. I added 2 under Recipes on this site.

I only eat fish too and only once a week or so.

Dang! Beat me to it! One of my favorite meatless dinners is quinoa with black beans, corn, pepper sauce and cilantro. Yumm... I'm hungry...

Oatmeal is a good one, too.

TVP - Textured Vegitable Protein

1/4 cup has 12g protein and 80 calories.

Greek Yogurts, Cottage Cheese, Quorn Chik Patties, Boca burgers.

Also Lightlife products (have lunchmeats, hot dogs etc)
