Protein, please.

So, I'm a pescatarian.  And as the day winds down and I'm getting my snack on (I've worked my eating schedule around allowing myself a few snacks at night.  I need them), I notice that: I'm always dreadfully low on protein!  What are some little things I can have to boost my protein?

greek yogurt

agreed.  greek yogurt is AMAZING and the kind i get has 16 gm of protein i think per like 6 oz.

  • cheese sticks are good too
  • high protein cereal (I recommend Kashi Golean high protein/fiber cereal...13 gm of protein per cup w/o milk)
  • protein bars
  • smoothies
  • protein shakes
  • nuts or trail mix
  • nut butters

soy protein, myoplex lite shakes are pretty good

Try meals based around pulses (legumes) such as lentils, chickpeas and beans.   All good sources of proteins and, of course, vegetarian.  You can also add the following.... eggs, nuts, seeds, tofu, quorn, quinoa grain, other wholegrain foods, dairy products.

Try to avoid protein shakes if you can.

Dried squid or fish!

I prefer smoked, specially hot smoked fish with boiled potatoes. :)

UD

thanks for the suggestions!

squids aren't kosher so that's out, ;)

and i eat very light breakfasts.  My lunch has to be something that requires no cooking right before eating and can last a few hours (school and such).

But I can try and have a more protein-rich dinner.

Just wondering...what is wrong with protien shakes?? I drink a Myoplex shake, five days a week. I am a waitress and have to go HOURS without eating. I use the protein shake to hold me over until I have time to sit down and eat a real meal.

Make sure you are getting at least 3 oz of protein at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You like light breakfasts, but make sure they are still substantial and balanced: protein, fruit, starch... adding a cup of low fat milk at meals can boost your protein in a healthy way also. Nuts, cheese, yogurts, and tuna with crackers are great high protein snack options. I would stay away from protein shakes/bars unless you are seeking to gain weight or muscle building. They have lots of additives that aren't necessary for the body. Best to stick with natural/basic foods.
