protein powder recipe ideas

Quote  |  Reply

I just bought EAS whey protein powder...and its awful. Absolutely disgusting when I mixed it with milk. But it was really expensive and I can't return it, so I'm going to eat it anyway. Any ideas to make it taste better?

Sorry to hear about your powder - not sure what flavor, if any, you've got, but here is one idea:

1 scoop powder

1/2 cup  frozen strawberries

1/2 cup frozen banana

1/2 cup plan yogurt

1/2 cup water (or milk)

blend until smooth

ugh, I totally understand what you mean. I bought it once and also hated it so much, I just forced myself.

Anyway, here is a pretty good idea that will help mask the nasty flavor:

- EAS protein scoop

- 8oz almond milk (organic, unsweetened, if possible)

- frozen strawberries (~60grams) or blackberries or blueberrie

- not-too-ripe banana (~100grams)

- 2tbsp milled flaxseed

Just blend all together in blender until strawberries are broken down and it is fluffy.

The banana masks the nasty EAS protein and gives the whole mix a fluff, while the strawberries give a cold smoothy like feel and the almond milk just tastes WAY more better than water and is leaner than milk .. flaxseed is a plus, gives more texture and has lots of fiber plus omega fats.

give it a shot... hope it tastes pallatable :)

I used to use a different brand of protein powder until I switched to EAS, which I absolutely love (I use the Creamy Chocolate).

My most common shake is:

  1. 1 Cup of Skim Milk
  2. 15-17 Ice cubes
  3. 1 Scoop Protein Powder
  4. 2 Tablespoons of Splenda
  5. 5-7 Strawberries (fresh or frozen)

Instructions:

  1. Blend the ice and milk by pulsing in a blender, until smooth.
  2. Add the Protein and Splenda, then stir it in with a spatula or spoon.
  3. Add the Strawberries.
  4. Pulse the blender a few times, then blend until smooth.
  5. Pour the shake into a larger glass and place in the freezer for about 30 Minutes.

This makes a very thick, ice cream-like dessert that I have after every weight lifting circuit I do! You can replace the Strawberries with other fruits to mix it up. One really good replacement is 1/2 a banana with about 1 Tablespoon of Peanut Butter.

Protein powder mixed into porridge/oatmeal is good.

Cook you oats in abit more liquid than usual (otherwise it gets to thick at the end)

My favourite combo is:

Oats, cooked in milk with a teaspoon sugar or honey, heaped tsp cocoa powder, handful of raisens. Then mix in your protein powder at the end - very satisfying and filling.

I absolutely love protein powder mixed in with greek yogurt, takes on a sort of cheesecake filling consistency. I actually mix up a big batch and pour it onto an oatmeal pie crust and chill it for dessert.

This is what i do most often:

  1. 1 Cup of Skim Milk
  2. 3 tablespoons unflavored protein powder
  3. 1 Teaspoon of Splenda
  4. 1 cup Strawberries, frozen
  5. 1/4 raspberries, frozen
  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  7. 2 tablespoons coconut, unsweetend

It's not wondefully delicious or anything, but it works.  I find no matter what you do protein powders always have a funky taste. To me it just tastes dry, even thought it's not.

Thanks, you guys are wonderful. They all sound delicious! Smile

I made my own protein bars last weekend! I posted the recipe in my journal (April 27 entry). They were delicious... nice & chewy.

I'll have to check that out. I tried making some myself, and they were okay but not great.
