yeah I am interested too, as recovery for lifting but I don't want a lot of calories like with muscle milk or anything either.
Wal-mart, believe it or not, makes a good Vanilla whey protein shake with only around 100 calories, 1g fat, and 1 g carbs.  It is their store brand, and I never would've tried it but my boyfriend suggested it, and I like it!  :)
I use these two products made by Hammer Nuturion.

Hammer Soy and Hammer Whey

their website is www.e-caps.com

I use the soy in the morning or on days I'm working out and the whey after workouts and/or when I'm recovering.  The website goes into why and which one is best.

I make a smoothie with a either one of the protein powders and all kinds of berries, a banana and some light OJ.   Great stuff.

They have around a 100 calories a scoope give or take.  No flavor additives or anything like that.
I like Optimum Nutrition, Double Rich Chocolate.  I like it with milk, post-workout, but it tastes good blended with just water.  120 calories per serving, 24 g protein.

Great! Thanks for all the feedback!
Hey, I found this on shapefit.com, you might like this.....

Here is a wonderful post workout shake idea you can use to help you look forward to your workout and feel as if you earned it!!

  • a scoop of high protein powder with low carb and fat
  • 2 tables spoons of oatbran
  • 8-10 oz water
  • ¼ cup fresh or frozen fruit of choice (such as banana, papaya, mango, berries)
  • 1 tbs of flax or Udos oil
  • ¼ cup of non sweetened OJ
Now blend it all up in a blender or bullet and enjoy! If you prefer not to use the flax or Udos then skip it and when drinking your smoothie, eat a handful of raw, plain almonds.

For those of you who are against Muscle Milk you should really reconsider... it has a bit higher calorie and fat content, but if you read up on it you will find that the fats and calories are specifically designed to be used by your body much more effectively and effeciently than other protein shakes, especially when used with working out...

Also, I do agree that regular Muscle Milk is a bit high even for me, that is why I use Muscle Milk Light, it's a new product and tastes amazing, check it out...

Also for an awesome breakfast check out Muscle Milk and Oats, 300 calorie instant oatmeal with added protein, I swear by then, keeps me full for hours in the morning
Beverly international brand.  Name of shake is called "muscle provider". Comes in chocolate or vanilla.  Only 110 calories per scoop, 22 grams of protein and tastes very very good.  Oh, no sugar and no other additives that a lot of other shakes have.  You can order it on bulknutrition.com or just google it.
I dont want to sound dumb but...what are protein shakes, why do people drink them, and why is protein so important?
Protein is essential for muscles, not just for body builders, but for maintaining what you have.  Protein shakes are high protein drinks designed to be used as supplements to increase protein intake in your diet.

Personally, I'm not fond of any plain whey protein drink, and muscle milk has too many calories at the recommended dosage.
What I do is take half a serving of muscle milk (1 scoop instead of 2) and one scoop of whey protein and mix it with two cups of nonfat milk.  It tastes great, has a lot of protein, and is not too high in calories (not low either). 430 calories and 50 grams of protein.
And it's a mixture of proteins, so you have some that are absorbed quickly and some that take time to absorb.
Somtimes I'll split it up and take half 45 mins before working out and the other half right after working out.
I drink Myoplex Original chocolate or strawberry.

1 packet -

280 calories

3 fat

310 sodium

910 potassium

23 carbs

3 fiber

2 sugar

42 protein

and a boat load of vitamins, etc.

I only use 1/2 a packet because a whole packet is a meal replacement for me. (I am a woman)   I don't eat much meat, and the protein is why I drink them. They are perfect at work because they are made with water... I would suggest putting them in a blender with a couple of ice cubes or 1/2 a banana.  They really get you over the hump.

I like to drink Syntrax Nectar after a work out.  It's 90 calories, 0g fat, and 23g protein per serving.  Reasonably priced too!

I like Atkins.  160 calories, 15 grams of protein, and if you put it in the freezer for 30 minutes prior to drinking to make it a little slushy, it's actually quite good.  Also, for women, there's a ton of calcium as well as many other vitamins/nutrients.
