Protein Shakes/Powder
I posted a little of this in another post. Basically my therapist wants me to add in supplement drinks such as fortisip. Im reluctant to do this because to me they just seem to contain a lot of sugar? Ive started at night to make milk with horlicks instead, but Im a bit reluctant because those drinks just seem to be made up of a lot of sugar?
I thought maybe I could take a protein shake instead, would this be a better alternative do you think? Or maybe making my own by using protein powder and milk? I have a protein shake from Body for Life, it says its a meal replacement shake, approx 200 Cals. Would it be suitable to drink this ontop of my six meals/snacks a day? Also if I did this say twice in the day, could I end up taking in to much protein would that be possible? I had one last night and was a bit worried because it said it was a replacement and I was using it ontop of my intake.
I thought making my own would be a good cheaper way but then Im a bit worried I could end up taking in to much dairy throughout the day. I used milk in the morning in my porridge and again at night and eat maybe 2 yogurts a day as well. So to then drink a milky drink as well, I thought might be overdoing the dairy?
So then I thought maybe just adding two scoops of protein powder to my porridge or yogurt might work out better?
Im just looking for some advise or ideas, the reason Im going for drinks/powder is because I want to add something that then when I reach maintenance I can just eliminate without cutting out my actual food.
I think if one is working with a treatment team they should follow their guidelines or come up with a plan together. Did you ask your T who suggested the supplement about what you are asking here as a sub? I know when I was in one of my ip it was not an option and I had to have Ensure in addition because I had some nutrient deficiencies and they felt the Ensure would help with that. I am not sure if that could be the reason behind this for you. I am not big on these types of drinks or protein powders. If you are and it helps you get your calories in then that is the goal. You could also make your own smoothy drink or add in another snack that when you can lower your cals it can be taken away to maintain. Some people like those bars too and you could have that with beverage.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
