So proud of myself! I ate cottage cheese!

Quote  |  Reply
ok hubby bought some cottage cheese with Rasp. topping for the kids to try.  Neither of us eat it, I never liked the way it looked or the texture.

I ate it this morning!  It was the high protein and low fat that made me do it!  Its not the best thing in the world but not so bad I wont continue to buy it!

Going to try other flavors now.
GOOD SLAPPY!!!!

sorry- im just proud I tried it and liked it! :)

Are they single servings Slappy?  Or a big container?
I love cottage cheese... it will grow on you.  It is also excellent in omelets, lasagna or just served with tomatoes/fruit.

Good job!!
its a single serving...still working on it.  the texture is still getting me a little.

but in one serving there is 11g. of protein and only 2.5g of fat!
How many calories per serving? I HATE cottage cheese, but might have to try it again. The texture and taste was hard for me in the past, but if I can, I would like to TRY and accept it.
bill-

140 cals

try it.  I did and if I can eat it I promise anyone can!  I have another one in the fridge Im going to make hubby eat :)
I dress up my cottage cheese with a lil bit of Mrs. Dash.   I don't like my cottage cheese with fruit or anything sweet.  Pepper or onion flakes and/or mrs. dash is pretty good.  I have a half cup nearly every morning.

Oh and I find that there are different brands that totally make me gag.  I had to throw it out it was so bad.  I found I really like Land O' Lakes brand, and I can't stand Kemps.   I have no idea what the difference is.

I usually get fat free or 1%.  I haven't graduated up to 2% yet.  haahaa
I love cottage cheese with fresh fruit like blueberries or pineapple :)
You sound JUST like I used to. I found the Cottage Doubles (what I believe you are referring to) and really like the strawberry ones.  It was the only way to get used to eating the cottage cheese.

Now, I have graduated to the single serve 'snack' cups that do NOT come with fruit and I still like it.
Good first step :)

Slappy, Friendship makes a 1% cottage cheese that's whipped!  That means no curds - it's fabulous.  I slice in some bananas for the sweetness & some cinnamon - which helps w/ the texture too - and it's a yummy lunch (or snack).
Oh thats great! It does grow on you cos you'll find more and more way to use it. If the texture freaks you out, blend it (you can also get it whipped/creamed but why pay more)!

Buy it plain and low fat and mix with french onion soup powder (not too much) for french onion dip. Or with sweet chilli sauce on potatoes.

Its good for savoury or sweet, and I use it on everything! From my home-made sushi, to cheesecakes, to on top of pizzas. It rocks
i am addicted to cottage cheese. i would eat it every day if i didn't constantly run out of it. my favorite thing to do to it is just add a bunch of pepper. i love pepper.
Whipped cottage cheese sounds awesome...
I never liked cottage cheese either, but I tried it again for the same reasons you did.

I found out it that if I mix in an ounce or two of flavored yogurt, I actually like it.  And if you add it in some fresh fruit, it's really good.

Sometimes, I will mix in 2 tbsp of sugar free cool whip and sliced strawberries for a treat.  It's like protein dessert.

But I still do not eat it plain. It's def. a mixer for me!

And Go Slappy!!
ok you guys now have me really interested!

What ways can I eat this stuff?  The whole time I was eating it I was thinking if I didnt have the fruit, there is no way I could eat it but I like the idea of using it for other stuff!

TOTALLY GOING TO LOOK FOR THE WHIPPED! thanks!
I love to put cottage cheese on a baked red potato. It's kind of like sour cream, but I think it's better!
I really like cottage cheese for a snack.  High in protein and good source of calcium.  I like mine plain (I eat the 1%) and I also really like to put salsa on it.  I also do not care for sweet stuff on my cottage cheese.  It helps with my cheese cravings.  Yum!
cgolly! Salsa sounds awesome!!!

ok silly question- will it melt?  would it be good melted on something?
It doesn't melt the way you may think, but a lot of people, including me, use it in lasagna instead of ricotta. So, it tastes good heated up too.
ok. I had a feeling it wouldnt really melt good.

Thanks guys!
OK.. youve got me curious! I've always half intended to try it some day, but it just looks so gross! But, If I can find the whipped version in the grocery store on monday I'll definately pick up a small amount of it. I think I'd be able to try it whipped, or in lasagna or.. I dunno. but I will try it!
