PSA: Better n' Peanut Butter = blech!

Quote  |  Reply
I typically avoid "diet" food such as reduced-fat-this, sugar-free-that, and opt for a smaller portion of the real stuff, or just omit completely. Well, I love peanut butter, and we all know that 1 serving of peanut butter is not much. At Trader Joe's the other day, I was about to pick up my regular crunchy peanut butter when I happened upon Better n' Peanut Butter, which promised 1/2 the calories of the real thing and tastes great, etc. In a moment of weakness [and greed--hey--I could get 2(!)servings for the same amount of calories in the real stuff!) I opted for the Better n' Peanut Butter. I got home, eager to try this product out, and lo and behold, it tasted like a$$ and I threw it out. Yuck! Tasted nothing like peanuts! The taste was synthetic-sugary nastiness! As such, ladies and gents, this product sucks--heed my warning lest you want to be out $4 and sorely disappointed! Trust me--your taste buds will want to commit suicide if you dare eat this stuff!

I like it, when I bought it I knew it would not taste like peanutbutter so maybe it helped to not expect that. Anyway this morning I had it on my toast sprinkled with cinnamon yum :)

This entire thread made me LOL.

But anyway, everytime I'm in Trader Joe's, I always pass that stuff. I keep reading on Hungry Girl's website that she loves that stuff. I'm still a little skeptical about it, and you just pretty much confirmed that I wouldn't like it. But now I'm curious to try it just to see what all the hype is about.

I had a bad experience with the PB2. I bought several bottles of it when several of us went in together and got a case. I had a bottle opened that tasted rancid. I threw it out and opened a new bottle that was probably 4 months old thinking it should be good..oh my gosh, it was worse than the used bottle. No more PB2 for me. What a waste. I like the Better than PB but I can only use a small amount as the sugary taste makes me want more sweet foods.

I love the stuff. I just made sure I didn't go into it expecting it to taste just like peanut butter. If you do that, of course you'll be disappointed. It's not peanut butter but it is a yummy low-fat peanuty spread for my sandwiches!
