PSMF Diets-what happens after??

Quote  |  Reply
I have a friend who has done this for a month and is doing great!  I want to try it (want to lose 10-15 lbs) but am curios as to what happens once a person goes off of it.  My friend is under dr. supervision but won't put anyone on it who doesn't need to lose 30 lbs as it's pretty agressive.  I'm tired of doctors telling me that I don't need to lose weight!  I shouldn't have enough fat on my tummy to grab!  Any suggestions or past experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Well now I'm curios, because I have exactly 30 pounds to loose. What is a PSMF diet??

It's a high protein diet which includes lean protein (meat & egg whites) and certain veggies.  I am a candy freak (lemonheads, fireballs) so the thought of this just makes me cringe but to see the results that my friend has had is amazing!  The concerns are that you need to be monitored so you don't damage your vital organs - scary!  I've never been a beliver of the high protein diets because it seems once you go off the weight (and more) comes back.

You get your body in ketosis where it burns it's own body fat for fuel -forgot to add that part.

Your doctor is telling you that you don't need to lose weight then you probably don't. How about cardio and strength training to tone up those muscles instead? I've seen plenty of people in the 'ideal' weight range who really could tone up by working out.

It's not always about weight.

I do cardio & weight training -- 5-6 days a week.  I know I am eating the wrong stuff - that or too much.  Just wanting to better myself as everyone else here.

And welcome :)

That's why we are all here. I can speak from experience as I was on a doctor supervised diet almost exactly as the one you mentioned for about 2 months, high protein and minimal carbs. I had gotten down to the goal weight they had suggested to me (I had lost 35lbs) and I was quite thin since I have a large frame, almost too much for me as I like having some curves. I had to be checked 3 days a week for deep ketosis and if I wasn't in ketosis I would not be allowed to eat fruit for the week. I did not work out an ounce during this time. It was a very restrictive diet so I would end up blowing it once or twice during my two months and having to work very hard to get back into a state of ketosis.

As soon as I started introducing carbs into my diet again (good carbs by the way, not bad carbs). I started gaining some of the weight back and was able to maintain this higher weight for about 6 years now. I also gained some weight in muscle since I started working out 6-7 days a week. I'm happy with my body now, but I just want to lose 10lbs of fat and I am doing that by losing 0.5 pound a week from eating well and keeping up my exercise regime.

The biggest thing I noticed about losing the visible fat on my body (belly and thighs) was to cut out a lot of the processed food (high sugar, white refined flour, junk etc.) and opt for natural choices including a good amount of protein. I also found losing weight slowly would give me better results in the long run for maintaining and muscle tone. Drinking lots of water with all of this really helps.

I'm also a Belly Dancer and that has done wonders for my figure and my mentality in the last 7 or so years.

Shara1234-congrats on keeping the weight off!  Thank you for your comments --I think I am going to give it a try for a few weeks so we'll see.  I know how well I do on diets in general!!
