I've heard many people say that they mix canned pumpkin in with their oatmeal and it sounds pretty good.

How much oatmeal (say it's a packet of instant) and how much pumpkin do you mix together to get that perfect ratio? I don't want to overpower either of them by mistake. Ha Ha.

Thanks! :)

I use 1/3  cup dry oats or oat bran + about 1/4 c pumpkin puree (I like a lot of pumpkin flavour).

If you're a pumpkin-oatmeal newbie, I'd suggest starting with 2 tbsp, mixing it up, tasting and then deciding if you want more.

I'm not a newbie to pumpkin in itself just when adding it to my oatmeal. Ha Ha...I will definitely try the second tip! Thank you so much! I'm so excited to try this. :)

Here's what I put in my pumpkin oatmeal:

  • 1/3 c oats or oat bran
  • 1/4 c pumpkin
  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp ground flax
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/8 tsp clove
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp raisins or dried cranberries or a mix of both
  • ~1/2 tbsp pumpkin seeds (sprinkled on top)

And I use either water or unsweetened vanilla almond milk to cook it :)

that sounds so tasty.  i was planning on trying pumpkin in my oats tomorrow for breakfast.  pumpkin is so yummy.  i figure it will be like pumpkin bread or pie with some spices in it.  nom nom. thanks for the recipe

I've tried a bunch of different ways, and this is my favourite

In a bowl, put:

1/3 cup oats

2/3 cup liquid (I use half milk/water)

pinch of salt

sliced RIPE banana

cinnamon

vanilla

Microwave for 2 mins, stirring to mash the banana half way through.

Add 1/2 cup pumpkin and microwave for another minute...top with peanut butter, maple syrup, whatever :)

Yesterday I tried it using a pack of High Fiber Instant Oatmeal with 3/4cup H20, then added 1/2 cup pumpkin, Splenda and pumpkin pie spice.  It was real pumpkin flavored, barely could taste the oatmeal, but I love pumpkin.

I am going to try it with quick oats today.

I usually go 40g oats; 1/3 cup pumpkin; cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice; walnut pieces, crushed almonds, or pecan pieces; sometimes milled flaxseed; ff/sf vanilla yogourt.  SO GOOD.

1/2 c. pumpkin and I use a little bit more water than what the box of oats say.  I add pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and some sweetener too.

it's a 2:1 ratio for me (1 cup cooked oats to 1/2 cup pumpkin)

That sounds AMAZING. I am totally going to try this after my next grocery store trip. =]

Pumpkin is amazing in oatmeal.

I put about 2 tbsp of pumpkin in 2/3 cup of oat bran in the morning, with 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice (I'm lazy like that, lol), 1 tsp vanilla extract, a dribble of vanilla almond milk and 1-2 packets of stevia.
