Pure, unadulterated ridiculousness...
What are some of the ridiculous things you hear coworkers/friends/family/strangers talking about eating? What crazy things do you see people eating? What fast food invention seems the most ridiculous to you?
I'll start: My coworker just said that her son likes to take a piece of white bread, cut off the crust, put PB & J on top, roll it up, and then eat it. And that he can eat 6 without even blinking. Ridiculous.
Or... the Fruitista things from Taco H311 -- has anyone noticed that they describe the drink as real, blended fruit flavors topped with real fruit? Come on, Taco Bell, you're not fooling us. Ridiculous.

The Taco Bell commercials for the things where they put a whole bunch of stuff inside a giant tortilla and then grill it flat gross me out.
Ooooh....Grilled Stuff'd Burritos - okay, I'll sheepishly admit that I did used to like these when I still ate stuff from Taco Bell. And, yes, even the spicy chicken crunchwrap supreme.
Wow - it's threads like this that make me remember how grotesque and ill advised my eating choices used to be.
Although I agree on those KFC bowl things - just the description is unappetizing.

I live in Canada, but anytime I have gone to the states, I find this mentality:
"Hey! We could deep fry this - LET'S!"(shakes head in disbelief)
you should see the texas state fair ;) we have deep fried deep fried lattes, deep fried ice cream, and deep fried coke (i still haven't figured out what any of these are)
Bread with butter and sugar is actually really good. The peanut butter waffle butter syrup combo sounds quite delicious, but I won't try it...maybe a bite some time. And when I was little my pb&j always had a little butter on the side with the jelly b/c it helped keep the bread from getting soggy when you packed your lunch and adds a nice flavor. Bologna with sour kraut would be similar to a hot dog with it on top so it may taste alright.
Gross is when I see people dip their fries in a milk shake. But I do put light lays chips on all my sandwiches...as if they didn't have high enough sodium from the deli meat!
Mm... I think that, compared the US, the UK has seen less crazy fast food inventions in terms of the sort you see sold by chains. But the worst things, in my opinion, are when you see ridiculous "gourmet" burgers that're about 10oz of meat smothered in cheese AND sauce AND more cheese AND topped with deep fried onion rings and all other kinds of artery-clogging madness on a white bun, OR when you see these ultra-mega-sundae affairs that're -meant- for sharing, but then you see people eating a whole one by themselves. Ick. I also think that any drink by a coffee chain that is something like a "dolce latte java mocha frappachino with whipped cream" deal is something vile. You're meant to be going in for a coffee, for crying out loud, not a dessert through a straw.
My brother loves them. I can't even imagine that tasting good, but i guess its a huge thing out there.
"What fast food invention seems the most ridiculous to you?"
I saw a Burger King commercial just this morning that advertised "apple fries" as a healthy choice for their kids meals. Apparently the fresh apple is sliced into fry shape and comes in a fry-like container. Is this supposed to "trick" the child into making a healthy choice? I just thought it was a bit ridiculous!
There is a salad chain in DC where I live called Chop't. It's great! YOu get your choice of lettuce with 5 toppings for like $6. I always get my salad with spinach, chick peas, green peas, broccoli, and other veggies with balsamic vinegar. BUT, whenever I go there the person in front of me or behind me is always ordering something along these lines: iceburg lettuce, fried onions, ham, cheese, egg pieces, croutons and ranch dressing. They probably feel good about themselves all day for having a salad for lunch!!!

Agree completely with your entire post! That's part of the reason so many American's are overweight!
I work at Denny's so I see some pretty gross, unhealthy things...
The two weirdest combination of food the stick out in my mind have to be a woman poured honey into her scrambled, cheesy eggs. And one time a man asked me to melt American cheese on top of his apple crisp.
Also I've noticed how appealing "brown" food is to so many people. For example people will order a fried chicken strip dinner with a side of fries, onion rings, and garlic bread. Everything on the plate is a brown color. When I look at the plates I just think, "ew, so much brown," but every time I bring out the plate the customers say how good it looks. I guess I'm just used to colorful plates of veggies!
Some of the breakfasts are just rediculous as well. The Lumberjack Slam: 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, a slice of ham, hash browns, 2 pancakes, and two slices of buttered toast! Seriously people?!?! I sell SO many of those.
On another note, my ex and his friends used to have McDonalds double cheese burger eating contests, him and his friends would down 6-8 of the burgers in about 2 minutes. Needless to say they usually ended up puking in the parking lot. My ex also used to order a quadruple at Wendy's. They had to used 2 wrappers and when he bit into it, grease just flowed out!
My entire family likes to "butter" their hotdog buns with peanut butter. Its the weirdest thing I have ever seen, and thankfully I didn't inherit a taste for it. UG!
ive seen some pretty weird combinations over here in ny, but one of the weirdest was one day at lunch in school..my friend brought a toasted bagel with butter and doritos on it..interesting yet soo unhealthy haha!

Ranch dressing on spaghetti?
I'm guilty of that one. Also of ranch on lasagna, ranch on broccoli (cooked), ranch on onion rings, ranch on pizza, even ranch on chicken. I draw the line at sweets, though.

I usually get a Lumberjack slam about once a month when the mood hits me. I have my cheat meals like anyone else. Otherwise, it's the mushroom swiss burger with a boca patty subbed in and a side of broccoli instead of fries. I couldn't believe I'd found a way to eat a little better at Denny's.

One of my brothers loves peanut butter and PICKLE sandwiches... ew.
Haha, that's great. So do I. Ate them all the time as a kid. Pickles with peanut butter, ketchup, and mustard in a sandwich.
Delicious.
I think I just liked the salt/vinegar combo, to be honest. That's really all you get out of it, tastewise.

No more so than calling PB on a celery stalk with a few raisins "ants on a log."
Or making homemade english muffin pizzas and using veggies to make funny faces.
I don't have a problem with it.

Hadn't really thought about it in those terms; you make an excellent point. I suppose just because it was associated with BK, it sort of threw me off.
My former co-worker used to order, a Double Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese for lunch. But he would have it on a whole wheat wrap, and tell everyone he was "trying to be good".
And I'm the one you've seen dipping french fries into a milkshake..:) I loved that in my former life.
