Pure, unadulterated ridiculousness...

Quote  |  Reply

What are some of the ridiculous things you hear coworkers/friends/family/strangers talking about eating? What crazy things do you see people eating? What fast food invention seems the most ridiculous to you?

I'll start: My coworker just said that her son likes to take a piece of white bread, cut off the crust, put PB & J on top, roll it up, and then eat it. And that he can eat 6 without even blinking. Ridiculous.

Or... the Fruitista things from Taco H311 -- has anyone noticed that they describe the drink as real, blended fruit flavors topped with real fruit? Come on, Taco Bell, you're not fooling us. Ridiculous.

I saw a Burger King commercial just this morning that advertised "apple fries" as a healthy choice for their kids meals. Apparently the fresh apple is sliced into fry shape and comes in a fry-like container. Is this supposed to "trick" the child into making a healthy choice?

No more so than calling PB on a celery stalk with a few raisins "ants on a log."

Or making homemade english muffin pizzas and using veggies to make funny faces.

I don't have a problem with it.

Hadn't really thought about it in those terms; you make an excellent point.  I suppose just because it was associated with BK, it sort of threw me off.

Seeing as children create brand identification around 18 months these days and since children 3-6 y.o. said that fries out of a McDonald's container tasted better than the same exact fries served on a plate with no branding, I'd say it's probably a good thing. Maybe kids will think the apples taste better and eat more of them. Personally, I see no need for the caramel dipping sauce -- apples are sweet all ready, why pour sugar on them?

Because caramel is wonderfully delicious (even if loaded with sugar).Smile

However, it does seem to me that it would be healthier to offer PB as a dip instead of caramel.  But my boys wouldn't take advantage of either - they prefer apples plain anyway.

Baskin Robins had a ketchup flavored ice cream for a while.

There's a restaurant I like to go to in Guadalajara that serves a sweet corn ice cream.  Sounds kinda weird, but it's surprisingly good.

My dad once bought cheese and corn ice cream thinking it was mango-flavoured.  (He didn't pay attention to the label -_-.)  It was actually pretty good minus the cheese.  Haha.

I was always really amused by how Snapple proclaims it is "made of the best stuff on earth".

there's this place near rutgers in nj called the grease trucks. which are literally a bunch of trucks that sell the GROSSEST monstrosities of sandwiches. we're talking eggs, bacon, chicken fingers, ketchup, mustard, coleslaw, burgers, pancakes, fries, and whatever else you can think of all on ONE SANDWICH. i know people who eat at least one of these a day.

My dad just sat and ate his way through a bag of fruit-tella (chewy sweets for those who don't know) which must've been about 350+ for the bag, and then a half a bag of spiced cornflake mix. The cornflake mix is 507 calories per 100g, more or less all fat and sugars... and there were 200g in that bag. Barf.

when I was a kid, my mom made all kinds of unhealthy foods... two that spring to mind are baked beans with fried bologna, and tomato soup with a cheeze wiz and miracle whip sandwich on white toast... Yum!!! ha ha.... haven't had this stuff since highschool... don't think there will ever be a jar of cheeze wiz in my house ever....

oh yeah, and my grandpa made me white bread with mayo and iceberg lettuce... ha ha

what's with all the iceberg dissing? It may not have much in the way of nutrients, but it does fill one up and doesn't have many calories and can help on the hydration front. I use it as a base for salads all the time, throw some of that on the plate, then add in carrots, cukes, zuke, a few spinach leaves, a Tb or so of craisins, and whatever else is on hand.

i know someone who did the 6 sandwiches in 45 minutes thing to get to name a sandwich. it was one of the most fascinatingly gross things ever.

i can't believe i forgot about the mozz sticks. they're pretty much a staple on every sandwich

Poutine!

Ick!

so I read all about pb and j sandwiches, rollups, and mixes that I had to have one....

I made myself the most gorgeous pb and j on whole wheat multigrain low cal high fiber bread with low sugar raspberry jelly with seeds.

I took the first delicious bite, and as I closed my teeth down on the deliciousness that is pb and j ( a lovely thing I have not had in many moons)

I noticed the pale green dusty covering to the bottom of my expensive bread.

And had to spit it out, unchewed, and disgusted.  Sigh.

Well, I haven't read this whole thread, nor do people really talk about these two things but they came to mind...

What's funny is I actually prefer to get a Gyro from a place close to Rutgers U. They go light on the Tzatziki (I can't spell that..) sauce and give you a side of spicy cayenne sauce on the side. Heavenly.

mmm food...

When I was younger, I used to love these sandwiches: pb and cheese; pb and honey; pb and banana... I gave a pbj one to my daughter yesterday as a surprise sandwich, and she loved it. i used to eat mustard on toast, and suck lemons too, but I think I was trying to outgross my brother at the time haha

Also when I was pregnant, we didn't have much money so we could literally only afford the big bags of frozen stuff and cheap processed pap in the cheapest shop imaginable. Anyways, the one thing we ate pretty much every day then that I would never eat again is the shallow fried (at least an inch of oil) fish finger sandwiches with lots of squeezy cheese. Seemed like a good idea at the time... I'm amazed I only put on a few baby pounds! Mind you my daughter was 8lb13.5oz...

I went to Dennys once... (I was visiting relatives on hol) and the best thing about it was the rocket cup. I had to trade half of my non-alc cocktail with my daughter for it tho hahaha

Sweetigem: I once ate a whole (unwaxed and washed!) lime for £20. It was worth it.

When my mum was pregnant with my sister, she used to like eating pickles and prunes... together. Don't think I'll be holding on to that family recipe. x[

I'm right there with ya sweetigem!  We didn't have a lot of money either and bean soup w/ hamhock was a staple or grilled cheese dipped in tomato soup w/ chips on top!  We ate pb w/ honey and bananas too. Were also known to  have tomatos topped with mayo as a snack, but think that a lot of folks do that?  And I still will eat lemon...

I can't knock my mom's fried porkchops though, grease all over the fingers and face but mmm mmm good!

Gross are sliders from white castles (I mean who really needs to eat 10 of those buggers), doesn't mean I don't eat them from time to time =)

I don't know how many of you are familiar with In n Out, it's a burger chain we have here in California. Well they have double doubles (which are delicious by the way) it's 2 patties on a bun with lettuce and tomato and you can order it animal style where is comes with grilled onions, melted cheese, and their secret sauce (its kind of like 1000 island).  The offer these burgers protein style and wrap them in lettuce instead of the bun.  Well I had a girlfriend (who really needed to lose weight) that was on a "low carb diet", and to her part of that diet was 2 of these double-doubles protien style for lunch...WTF. What kind of diet is that!!  She had convinced herself that as long as she wasn't eating the bun it was alright...LOL!

How about deep fried pickles...mmmmm soooooo goooood, but oh so bad!!

in and out burger is delish!!  I always hit it up when visiting my mom in cali, oh!! and del taco!!

it's not the iceberg per se but what most people do to it.  i used to see it all the time at buffets.  a few shreds of iceberg lettuce covered with bacon bits, shredded cheese, diced egg, diced ham, croutons & ranch dressing.  and the person eating it being all self-righteous that they're having a salad for dinner.

Gross things I've seen people eat:

1) chicken fried rice with, soya sauce, ketchup & gravy

2) Shredded cabbage with canned evaporated milk

3) canned tomatoes with sugar
