If you're up to the challenge, jump right in and let us know you're progress.
BTW, I started losing weight in Jan at 158 lbs. I'm at 120 now. My goal was/is really 115 but I'm trying to accept this as my body's setpoint since I've been about this weight since August. I'm 5-0 and 39. To think, a year ago I couldn't do 3 push-ups! My family is 600 miles away. I think they would be shocked at how far I've come.
I think all of you are brave to even attempt this! (me too!)
Good Luck!
Our Challengers are:

I did my initial test. I did 20 push-ups. Sounds good, right? I need a mirror though, because I don't hink I'm lowering myslf as much as I should to have good form. I probably could have don a couple of more, but the form thing make me think-what's the point?
Anyway, this is a three times a week challenge, where you do a few push-ups at a time, with rest periods. (could this work as HIIT? I still have some bothersome belly fat...) Maybe, when I'm able to do shorter spurts I'll be able to concentrate more on form.
I'm kinda' antsy to get this started. I think I'll start this afternoon, so I can have the proper rest days, then switch to M-W-F next week. I need before photos! (ugh)
My rank is 3. I start in column 3, week1.
Good job, tomato! You are definitely motivated to achieve your goal. I can't do push-ups any more because of shoulders which I abused for years doing the bench press.
Could you find someone to observe your pushups? I know when I first started doing the basic planks, I was not quite straight. I had my wife critique my position until it was correct.
In any case, great job! I hope you keep this thread going and let us know how you are doing.
I actually just discovered the 100 Push-Ups website today. I printed out all of the sheets am am planning on starting this evening. I normally to a quick 10 push-ups & side planks as part of my daily workout routine but really want to get better at them as well as build up my arms and shoulders a bit. I may not actually start 'Week 1' until next week so I can have a hard starting point and because I want to keep my 3 push-up days as M-W-F. If that's cool, I'll definitely join your challenge!
Thanks, verbal encouragement is certainly enough if you can't join the challenge. You're a great motivator!
I'm going to errands today, then do my first "day" of the challenge before the kids come home. I'll check in after and report how it goes...
I have tried this before... but I got injured and had to stop. I will start today... I will be doing Tues, Thurs, Sat :) YAY!
Welcome, beaniej and dnsmills!! I was afraid I was gonna be a lonewolf on this one. :(
dns,it must have been fated for you to come across this post. LOL
beaniej, did the push-ups injure you? Or was it something else that made you have to quit? Maybe there is something to be learned from your experience...
Also, there was a mirror propped in my garage, so I did a few pu's in front of it and my form was better than I thought. Whew!! (I'm going to keep abbreviating push-up as pu, cuz that makes me giggle.)
I posted before pics in my gallery. You can tell my weak area is my belly. *wince* Oh, well....
It was something else... not the push-ups. I tore my abdominal plate. I think the push-ups injured it worse, but they were not the cause :)
Count me in, I do pushups pretty regularly, but this will help me get my form down as well. Great for the upper body!!! Will start tonight.
Welcome, julielet! Glad to have you with us.
OW, beaniej! That sounds awful. I hope you're fully recovered now.
Nice to see the Challenge growing. Now, I'll really have to see it through if I want save my dignity (like I have any..have you seen my gallery photos?)
Anyhoo, DAY 1 is officially checked off my list. I maxed at 15. It wasn't too awfully bad, but I was a little shaky afterward.
YAY!
Hi! What a great website and plan! I have a 6 1/2 week old baby and was just given the go ahead to begin working out (normally) by my physician. I think this is a great way to ramp up to the strength I was at before I got pregnant. I will also do the 200 sit-up and 200 squat plan that are connected to the 100 pushup challenge. Here are my initial results:
push-ups=9 (oh well...my arms were never that great before anyway)
sit-ups=39
squats=50
I will Day #1 tomorrow and hope to be close or maybe even in sync with you all, getting the 3 workouts in per week...most likely M-W-F.
Cheers!
I found about this recently, too. I run a little fitness/nutrition help column for one of my hobby groups, and I wrote about this, but I figured I'd better put my money where my mouth is. ![]()
After all, how can I advise people about an exercise if I'm not doing it?
I took the initial test on Monday (did 39, but that's after 3½ months of P90X), so I plan to start next Monday. I had to figure out how to work that in with my daily workouts so that I don't destroy my tris, chest, and shoulders.
Tomato, congrats on achieving the shakes! That means that you worked hard and you deserve every pat on the back you get. Keep it up!
sfrings, you may think your arms aren't great now (and don't forget that your shoulders and chest are involved, too), but they WILL BE. Imagine where you'll be in just a couple of short weeks! In workouts, any improvement over previous attempts are total victories. But even if you have some off-days (and everyone is allowed off-days), as long as you don't give up, you're still ahead of the game!
Welcome, sfrings and crimson667!
sfrings, Gosh, I wish I had been so motivated to get in shape after my pregnancies. I've also been considering the squat challenge to do on alternate days. I'll see how this goes first. Baby steps...
Crimson, P90X? You're practically a god! Funny that I look at 100 pu's and think," I could do that", but P90X seems unsurmountable. I really want to start lifting heavy but the gym is out of the question and I have no equipment YET. That's on my Christmas list, I'm hoping dh comes through...
I'm bumping this up because I think it is really neat how several of you are working together and motivating each other. Best of luck to all of you!
I will be lurking on this thread just because I am a...

Did Day 1. I am starting out in the first column because I am horrible at push-ups!
Day 2 here I come (tomorrow)!
That's ok, Shane, you can do the challenge vicariously through us. LOL
Go, beanie! I'm doing Day 2 tomorrow also. ![]()
This looks awesome! I'm a couple days late, but I'm going to jump in and maybe be a week behind the rest of you. I love working out my legs, but loathe upper body exercises because of old, lingering shoulder injuries. Push ups are a great alternative because your arms are not extended at unnatural angles with weights & this might be a great way for me to build up some strength in my shoulders as well as tone up my arms. I love anything with structure and a specific goal - it makes it so much easier for me to commit ![]()
I did my initial test yesterday and managed to squeeze out 20 push-ups. I'm not going to start Day 1 until next Monday so I can keep my 3 day workouts on M-W-F. Good luck to everyone!
Welcome, c4giants! I also do better with specific goals. I guess I want things to be concrete. I figure we'll all be starting at different levels, and some might even start at week 3 or so. The important thing is that we encourage each other along the way.
Cool, dns! We're starting about the same level, I think. I'll tell you how it goes.
Day 2 done! Not as shaky this time and I maxed at 18. The 90 second pauses kill! About halfway through I decided to tidy the house while I counted to 90. HA! Two birds killed with one stone. I imagine I won't have the strength to do that later though.![]()
I did my initial test last night and was able to do 20 without losing good form ![]()
I'm going to wait until Monday to begin the program - dns - we'll be on the same schedule.
Good luck everyone & enjoy!
