pushing the season, and beautiful, glorious mud!

Quote  |  Reply

I ran outside today; I just could not face one more day in the gym and it was glorious! I had mud and scratches up to my knees and almost fell on ice about a dozen times, but it was worth it! It was about 50 and felt soooooo warm!

I don't care if I can't be outside again for a month (which is likely the case); this reminded me why I run indoors--so I can run OUTDOORS most of the year!

Next year, I'm going to look for better gear and run outdoors until there is ice. I can't take another winter this long!!

So, who else has been holed for the winter and ready to break loose?

I can't run for physical reasons, but I do go bike riding. As long as it's not freezing and not raining, I go out there. Stationary is boring ;) Who cares about mud? I'm starting to doubt I will ever get my bike clean again :D You can't even tell the original colour anymore ;) But I am hoping for nicer, more consistent weather, then I can go even more often *happyyyy*

Hey, redselene, good for you! I'm going to be back indoors for a while--really cold again (10ish) and I didn't get acclimated this winter and am too wimpy to start now, so to the gym I'll go. But having this one break from it means so much! And you should have seen the mud and blood on my legs all the way up to my knees. The blood came from brambles; where it was too icy I had to cut through the fields a bit and got nicked a few times, and I was so happy even to be ABLE to do that!!

I just do not enjoy a gym setting, never have. I can play sports indoors (bball, soccer) but would rather play my soccer outside and would 10000x rather run outside! This was my first winter of sticking with my running as a truly regular part of my life in a while, and I never had trail access before since moving to the north. Now I have all the pieces in place to continue running outside next year. I hope I can brave the cold! Ice will definitely get me inside, however; I've had one fall--while walking--that left me on crutches. I don't "do" ice so well!

haha I think in degrees celsius so I had to look up how cold that actually is ;) okay, I totally agree, in 10 degrees fahrenheit I wouldn't go either. Too dangerous, and too cold, brrrr! Where I live, it barely ever goes below 30, so there's almost no ice. So as long as it's not raining (to dangerous as well) I can go. The alternative for me is workout videos, since the closest gym to my place is like 40 minutes away. No space for a stationary bike or elliptic machine either ...

Respect for running through the brambles by the way, I think I'd have been too wimpy for that ;) But as you said, with the right kind of gear, a bit of cold isn't an issue. They have these awesome running leggings made from spandex. Very unsexy *lol* but nice and warm, at least when it's around 35 ish or warmer. And then a zipper made from stuff that keeps out the wind but still gives the sweat a chance to escape, and you're all set. Oh, and a good scarf :D Must admit it was slightly expensive, but totally worth it.
