that being said, should i reduce the calorie count? im in the 1800 range...but i think thats way too much for me. i normally eat between 1200-1500

Hey

So with the p90x lean or normal. The key to not overdeveloping your muscles is to pick lighter weights for longer reps.. e.g. 5 lbs 17 reps. If you were doing 15 lb for 10 reps.. you would be targeting bigger bumps! get it.. Dont be shy to be fit! Do the p90x get lean and fit. This program is so easy to modify as you go. just use common sense.

As far as the calorie count. While doin a extreem workout like p90x you should NEVER go below 1700 calories. It may sound like alot. ( its not) Buy some soy protien shake and mix it with milk for an extra EASY 300 calorie protein boost. On your down days.. maybe you can get away with 1400 calories. Remember you burn calories while you shower, while you sleep and while you drive!.

Taking in too little calories .. will result in slower weight loss and muscle breakdown. Being to tired to work out!!!

Hope this helped

thanks melindajean. have you done p90x yourself?

I have... And i liked it so much.. im doing it again but including the p90x plus ... I lost 15 lbs and gained so much strength.. I feel so good about it all!!! The cardio video is a suplemental workout .. Meaning you can swap it out for any workout during the week. My husband did it too and to say the least our results are very different. His arems are big and defined. Mine are lean and strong. Good luck to you

Hey Specca,

I was worried about the same thing when I started p90x!  I didn't want to bulk up, but wanted to get lean and toned.  I have found that lighter weights with increased reps definitely does work wonders.  Also, if you are intimidated by thing like pull-ups, etc, they always show you how to modify the work-out so there is less resistence.  Right now I can do 2 unassisted pull-ups, then continue with my foot on a chair (i.e. cheating ;)  This allows you to control how much of your body weight is being supported and lifted in the pull-up motion.

p90x is a great workout!  I'm not following the eating plan very well though.  I stick with the general idea of 5-6 small meals a day, but since I generally eat very healthy and balanced, I see no reason to be super strict about it.

I think p90x lean will get you lean and help you become slim, but will not tone as much, if that's what you're after.  And the super ripped girl on the video (Dreya Webber) is a professional arialist, like arial acrobat I guess.  I think you'd have to do a lot of p90x to look as ripped as her!
