P90X..Any guys starting it? Monday Jan 12th

Quote  |  Reply

I am making the plunge Monday.  I see that there is a thread for the ladies so I thought I would see if any guys are doing this.  I am a little bigger (and older 40)than most people I see starting this (205 currently), but I started losing weight a year ago and after losing 40 pounds I need something else.  Anyway if anyone is starting and wants to commiserate let me know.  ;)

1 week down!!!  I think the stretchX was not that good.  I think next Sunday I will just take a break and enjoy the day off.  Anyone else?

A week ago Sunday I was sick so didn't o the stretch- I had intentions of doing it yesterday but decided that one day off would be nice, so that's what I did.

As far as the bands go, I quite like them but feel they're likely less challenging than the bar. If you go the band route, get ones that have a strong tension to them- mine don't, and as a result, I need to step back reallllly far from the door frame to get a challenging tension and I'm always worried they're gonna snap!

I spent the whole first week in a perpetual state of soreness, the second week, no soreness at all! Hope you find it easier going this week!

30 days is over here.....I start phase 2 today.....I'm guessing that phase 2 amps up the torture even more if that's even physically possible....wait till you guys get to do prison push-ups and Sphinx push ups......you'll be thinking "WTF did I get myself into"

Day 8 workout..Core Synergistics again...I am much more tired than last week.  I think it is because I was able to do so much more this week than last.  It's cool because I want to feel like this after a workout but dang!!!!  jarred, since I am doing lean we are already doing sphinx and prison pushups....not fun.

I can barely manage a couple of the diamonds, divebombers, and declines! ARG! I hate them!!! :D

how is the lean different from classic? I know it has more emphasis on cardio, is that for extra weight loss?

From what I gathered the lean is more for those who want to lose a little more weight and not bulk up as much.  Not saying that classic causing you to get huge or anyting but the lean is more cardio and less weights.  In the first 30 days I only do arms and shoulders on Wed. and Legs and back on Fridays.  The rest is core, cardiox, yoga, and Kenpo.  Now what happens in the second phase?  I haven't looked that far ahead yet  :0

I started phase two last night and I take back my previous statement.....plyo-pushups, slow mo push ups, and one handed push-ups are harder than sphinx and prison :*-(.......I get it now....its not muscle confusion....its just harder and harder exercise.....I feel like shidt today but I at least get a chance to rest with some plyometrics!!! thank god!!! <---complete and utter sarcasm

oh mother!! Are you doing the classic jarred?

*hands together in prayer, "please say no, please say no"*

Unfortunately yes.....and its about as hard to stomach as a guy reading one of the twilight novels...baaa dum dum ....chiing! (drum sounds..cue laugh track)

P.S.

I just made the cover of downward dog magazine...suck that Pam the Blam!

ha!

Hey, speaking of Pam, is it just me or have you all noticed that the P90X girls are pretty well endowed from the waist down? If I get a bigger butt from this program, I'm gonna be ticked!

qm, would you rather have no butt or one that has a little shape and is muscular?  I know which one I prefer to see on a woman ;)

Keep at it Jarred, I plan on doing the classic version after I finish the lean one.  You let me know what is ahead!!!

Workouts are getting easier to recover from but since I am doing more during the workouts I am dead afterwards!!  I have decided that I really like the recovery drink.  Even though it doesn't mix that well and I usually just slam it down, I feel soooo much better about 15-30 minutes after drinking it.

genetics have given me a butt, so I don't think I'll ever be "bootyless", but I don't really want to have the JLo look either!

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to look like this at the end of the 90 days! :P

I have been cycling back and forth between weights and the bands.  I like the weights for exercises that just work better with them.  I switch to bands when I don't want to mess with my weights or the resistance is really good for the exercise in question.   I got a good mix and a great workout this morning doing Biceps and Back.  I think, however, that I managed to strain a small muscle in my back, lower left outside the shoulder blade.  Good thing next week is a recovery week (right!).

I also use the Total Gym for my chin ups and pull ups.  I am currently as high up as it goes, which only uses about 60% of your body weight.  I rather like being able to do 20-25 chin ups on the Total Gym versus the 3-5 regular chin ups I would be able to do with the bar.

Im with you wes.....I hate having to pause and change my weights....so I use the bands for any exercise where tony says you don't need a lot of weight....front straight arm extensions etc etc....I do like the free weights when doing the 8-10 business where you have better stability....hopefully it is just a small strain....I had a similar incident this past summer and I thought I could just work through it....I ended up sidelined for about 4 months....at least thats what I blame my laziness on ;-)

Days 9 and 10....For some reason I am much more tired after the workouts this week than last week.  I am going to continue to blame it on the fact that I can do more of the exercises and I did up some of the weights in arms and shoulders last night.

AbRipper killed me last night...I thought I was making progress on it dang it!!!

Sometimes, when your muscles are sore, the ab stuff is harder!  I used weights on legs and back last week, and my first ab workout on Monday just sucked.  Then on Wednesday, I nailed it!!  Keep working it...

well I am visiting in-laws and couldn't use a pullup bar.  I tried the bands but I don't know if I was actually working the right muscles...I hope so.  I guess we will see next week when I do my regular routine at home.  At least with KenpoX tonight I know I can do everything.  Anyone else have problems when traveling?

Hey guys I am just gathering up all the things I need to start my p90x journey and I am super excited, I am having trouble choosing wether I should buy resistance bands or free weights, do any of you guys have an opinion to which is better? I am planing to start my journey next monday and will probably do the classic. I was a collegiate athlete a few years ago with the extreme sport of wrestling, since then my body has gone to crap and my eating habbits leave me sluggish, I really am looking forward to the intensity of this program though and Its great to find other people who are doing the program without joing those expensive web groups!

I use both the weights and the bands.  If I could afford it, I would get enough weights to just go weights.  The bands work well, but I'm thinking you need really good ones like the ones no the P90X website, and no I don't work for them.  That's just my opinion.

The one time I tried bands I didn't like them at all.  If you can afford the weights I would definately go with them.
