P90X - how hard is it?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a middle aged male. I walk 3 miles at a fast pace 4 days a week. I've done very little weight training. I've lost 50 lbs. with 10 more to go. I now want to tone up. I'm wondering if it would be "over my head"? Thanks.

Not to be cliche...  It depends on how hard you "bring it".  I took me 10 weeks to do the entire 15 minute ab exercise.  I did my best and forget the rest.  If you do the same, you can handle it.  They have Classic and Lean versions.  If you are unsure, start out with Lean...

Thanks for the reply "wesmckean". What kind of results did you get?

Hey, I went from not working out at all for over four years to P90X, and yep, it's TOUGH! But guess what? It's the most fun I've had working out and it's the best workout I've EVER had!

I'm on my 33rd day and I still can't get all the way through the ab routine. Pull ups are less than when I started (muscles are always fatigued). But overall my energy is higher, my moods are better, my health is great.

Give it a go, and like wesmckean said, "do your best and forget the rest"!

Go for it! There's a couple of P90X groups here, too.

I know it a bit different as I'm a girl but I tried the ab video, I missed one or two reps and did the 'easy version' where there was one.

It wasn't hard to do at the time and I was even fine the next day, but the day after.......... I could barely walk, my quads were solid and I found standing up from a chair and stairs agony. My abs were also really sore. I'd say the workouts are good and they are easy to fit in to the day, but ease yourself into it and remember to warm up and down and stretch out.

I was already in pretty good shape.  My goal was not to lose weight, just tone up and maintain through my off season.  My core and upper body strength was horrible, but I am MUCH MUCH stronger now, and that is a good thing.  I have run like 3 times since November of last year, and it was always a lung exercise rather than a leg exercise, because my legs were so strong...  I have developed some good definition in my abs and I actually have some guns showing Laughing

I think I would have to actually go through another round to see the true benefits.  Unfortunatley, tri training starts Monday so it will have to wait till the end of the year.
