Q for you crazies who workout in the morning

Quote  |  Reply

My boss just changed my hours from starting at 7 to now 8.  So I am thinking it might be possible to start working out in the mornings!  I have never liked doing mornings because 1. I'm not awake and 2. I NEED food in my system to have any energy whatsoever.

So my question: What do you do for breakfast?  Every morning I have a whey protein shake and drink it on the way to work.  But I don't know what to eat or how much time I should wait between eating and working out...

Also, is this a "do whatever works for you" type of thing, or does eating right before a workout actually hinder any weight loss or fitness goals???

I think it's a myth. I haven't seen any studies that support this. You are going to use up fat stores when you exercise. You are going to use glycogen stores also. As intensity increases the ratio shifts towards more carbohydrates being used, but also more calories are being burned.

I have a specially formulated pre-WO protein that's meant to be taken on an empty stomach! I work out at 5:45 every other morning to make it to class by nine, and it works out great!  I have a different shake immediately post-WO, then yet another before heading off to class.  Itmakes things easy...add water and shake!

I should also add, I am doing NROL4W as well, and my system is working out really well for me! I'm working on losing fat instead of gaining muscle right now, but either way it works! (For me!)
