q for those who have gone through recovery

Quote  |  Reply

..from anorexia.

what can i expect? sometimes when i eat more i get gassy, and i've heard that recoverers can experience really bad stomach acid. what sorts of physical discomforts (the mental ones seem obvious) should i prepare myself for?

also, my parents and doctor want me to see a psychiatrist/psychologist. is this good?

i'm actually kind of terrified of seeing a mental health doctor because (and i know this sounds really dumb) i feel like the "causes" for my ED are insignificant and the doctor will lose respect for me. ha, just typing that makes me feel dumb. but i try to impress everyone--even a psychologist. i saw one once before and hated it precisely because of that: i could only tell her what i thought she'd want to hear.

physical discomforts i experianced we're feeling REALLY hot, after eating. body temperature oftan spikes, its kind of crazy. also, stomach emptying, like you feel uncomfortably for quite a while after eating (there is soemthign that can be prescribed for this called domperadon) and constipation. i would strongly suggest seeing either a psychologist or psychiatrist, i am currently seeing both. a dietican also helps a ton. good luck and best wishes hun, pm me if you ever want to talk.

thanks for the support and the honesty! i hope your recovery has gone well too :)

Your food digestion process has slowed down alot due to the eating disorder and you should ask your doctor about reglan which will help with that.  Seeing a therapist and psychiatrist is a good idea.  A therapist deals with the emotion aspect of the disease and a psychiatrist prescribes the meds.  I see a therapist and psychiatrist so, you arent' alone...I am glad you are seeking help towards recovery
