A question for the Americans here...

Why cookies and milk,

and not tea and biscuits???

I do like a huge cup of tea and a rich tea (gluten free is sadly just not the same these days Frown) biscuit to dunk when I'm up for snacking. Anybody think they could better that? Haha.

A question in response (even though it's rude to answer a question with another question):

Why Marmite?  That stuff is just revolting.

I think I'd probably like marmite if I ever got to try it :P  And to be honest, baboo4, I'd prefer coffee and a biscuit rather than tea.  That's the American bit for ya :)  Milk and cookies is more of a little kid thing.  Even when adults do it, it's far more out of nostalgia than because it's a regular adult contrivance.

However, coffee with cream and a good biscotti... oh god... I'll be in my bunk ;)

I know you're not supposed to, but I sit on the fence with that one.

Yummy on toast (or crumpets, or on grilled meat...), Yucky as a drink - my gran has it like Bovril!

Milk gives calcium & protein!  If I don't get my calcium nutritionally, I won't get it at all.  I don't know how I would manage without daily infusions of calcium-rich foods.

Milk and cookies are for children.

Tea and biscuits are for adults, even here in the States.

Milk also gives me stomachaches :P  But, to refer back to the topic:  I do drink tea.  I love tea.  And I've had tea and biscuits before, but I think it's the cream in the drink that makes it wonderful, and I don't care for cream in my tea.  Coffee is intolerable without it, tho :P

That does make sense. I don't know any brit kids that get milk and cookies. I don't even think I was allowed cookies as a kid!

Not true, trhawley!  I'm an adult and I LOVE milk and cookies!  Especially home made chocolate chip... Yum!  Tea is cool, but it's mostly for when I'm sick (unless it's green tea which I only drink on its own with no food).  If I don't have milk on hand, though, I do cookies and black coffee.  I think coffee is bigger over here than tea, but that's just me...

Also, I'm not even sure what a tea biscuit is.  Is it like biscotti? Is it like a cracker? Is it like an actual biscuit?

 Why either?

How about biscotti and coffee?

Or be a real risk taker:  What about tea and cookies, and milk and biscuits?  Wink

I'm pretty sure the real USism is Coffee and Yet Still More Coffee. Sleep means the terrorists have won.

Ha!

Coffee and whole bran muffins.

Rich tea biscuits are a British thing, I think. They're just plain round biscuits that are slightly sweet. The ultimate dunking biscuit. Or to quote Terry Wogan, the "Lord of all biscuits".

It thought it was coffee and donuts.

I'm from the US and for me it's not an age or a nationality issue, it's about time of day.

Cookies and milk is a dessert eaten at night after dinner.  Largely the cookie is the dessert and you need milk to wash down the rich chocolate chips

Tea and biscuits are a late afternoon snack to tide you through until dinner.

I eat both and enjoy both, they each have their own time of day.

I only drink hot drinks in the winter, mostly tea sometimes hot chocolate or spiced cider. I absolutely hate coffee with a passion. Can't stand the smell or the taste. I drink iced tea for caffeine purposes the rest of the year.

Have to agree with other posters that milk and cookies are mostly a kid thing. Some adults carry it on, but mostly for kids. If I bake homemade cookies, you can be sure I'm going to sit down and have a couple fresh from the oven with a glass of ice cold milk. Yummy.

Even breadsticks into marinara sauce? Or buffalo wings into ranch dressing?

i'm canadian, but i'd take a coffee and bagel over biscuits, cookies or donuts. maybe it's the tim hortons influence.

I was told that if you drink hot liquids in warm weather it takes your body temperature closer to the outside temperature so it doesn't seem so hot outside. Maybe my mum was fibbing in order to just enjoy her tea in the sunshine in peace haha.
