Although I have been on this site for over a year, there is one thing I can't figure out. When you log under activities, do you log everything, ie showering, driving. cleaning the house, etc etc or do you just log srtaight exercise walking, jogging, treadmill, etc. Can you please tell me what you do and why???

Thanks

I have mine set to sedentary and only log "real exercise" because I think I would go insane trying to log everything.  So, for example, yesterday I logged my weight lifting and the Jillian Michaels video I did, but I did not log my walk to the store, the housework I did or anything else.

Sedantary includes all activities of basic living.  Log any additional exercise you do.

I thought sedantary was just enough calories to keep the bodies organs working. That those calories for sedentary would be used just lying in bed.  I recall a post about that. Now I'm really confused.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount your body needs to keep the bodies organs going. Basically this is how much you would burn if you did nothing at all.

In the context of dieting Sedentary is defined by CC as:  Sedentary: On most days, you find yourself mainly sitting, reading, typing, or working at a computer.

The others levels are below:

Light Activity: You participate in light exercise, such as walking, for no more than 2 hours daily.

Moderate Activity: You rarely sit during the day and do heavy housework, gardening, or dancing daily.

Very Active: You participate in physical sports such as jogging or mountain-biking each day or you hold a labor-intensive job such as a construction worker or bicycle messenger.

I set my activity to Sedentary because my work is desk based (I'm a Software Engineer). I tend to list things like walking if it is something I do in addition to my normal walking. For example I go for a walk at lunch time during the week, it approximately half an hour and for me it burns around 107 calories. I also list anything that I do that is not part of daily routine such as mowing the lawn, cleaning the house etc.

Actually sometimes I don't even bother logging any activity at all unless its something strenous like sports and I want to know that if I eat a little more that I wont be totally eating back all the calories I've just worked hard at burning.

Right, lunch time. Can't go for my daily walk its raining here in London. I guess we've had our quota of sunny days already :(

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
