Question for anyone who has a real idea.

When I was about 15 years old, I went on a diet. Dropped from about 144 to 115 by the age of sixteen. Now, I'm 16 and brought my weight up to about 122, and I'm 5'7. Did this diet hinder my growth? Do you think I could have been permanantly scarred by it, or do I still have a shot if I countinue eating properly to gain a few inches in height?
Yes, genetics, but would a diet for that long hurt me still?

It shouldn't have any lasting effect.  Even if the 'diet' you did was some dreadful crash/starvation thing  bodies are extremely resiliant and can recover from all kind of stress.  Girls tend to damage themselves most if they have eating problems around puberty when they're not fully developed internally.   5'7" is already pretty tall.  Are your parents especially tall that you're expecting to grow some more?

I had similar circumstances in that, at 13 I developed anorexia ( I am not saying in anyway that you were anorexic), however when I returned to a healthier weight I actually grew a little bit - I wasn't actually meant to grow any taller due to medical reasons from when I was younger. The doctor explained that this was because my hormones - which had been supressed from being produced in a bid to savour calories by my body began to be produced again.  So, no I don't think that your height should have been damaged but like g-i jane said, your genetics have an ultimate control over how tall you are going to be and 5''7 is tall for a girl, so it may simply be that you aren't actually meant to be any taller

unless you were eating very little for a long time, which doesn't sound like the case, you'd probably be 5' 7" anyways (which is quite tall!) however, i see where you're coming from. i'm 5' .5"- very short- and always wonder if i would have grown an inch or two if i hadn't underate for over a year.

You see, the thing is, I am a male, you are talking about this as if I was female.

You should have stated your gender... telepathy isn't too reliable :-)  Don't worry yourself unduly.  Boys tend to have late growth spurts - some well into their late teens and early twenties.  I met a man a few months ago that I last saw over 20 years earlier when he left school at 16.  He was the class 'titch' when he left... five feet tall at the most.... but must have grown over 18" in height since.  On the other hand, if your parents are short, you're never going to be a giant.

Concentrate now on getting a good diet.... quality as well as quantity.   Learn to cook... it's an excellent life skill.  Be as active as you feel comfortable with.  Personality-wise, set yourself goals and challenges so that you boost your self-esteem and aren't as self-conscious about your height.  Successful men come in all shapes and sizes!

you could possibly have stopped your growth since you dieted at the time when most boys get their growth spurts. but that doesn't mean you cant get taller. i was about 5'9 at the start of my ed. after a few months of eating normally i grew a 3/4 inch. so i'd say keep it up, and be sure you are eating the proper amount of calories (use this calculator)

The guy I dated in high school was 5'8 and shot up to 5'11 after we broke up in college. I think I was holding him back!

it's impossible to know for sure, but you have nothing to lose by eating properly. if you can still grow, you will. if not, you will still be healthy.
