question about Bodybugg calorie monitor

Quote  |  Reply

I have  been wanting to do an all day monitor to see how many calories I burn in a day. I have a polar f11 but have heard HRM watches are not meant for all day monitoring. I have used various online BMR calcs and daily intake calcs, but I want something specific to my situation. I have read on this forum that the bodybugg is currently the only way to do this.

I could never really afford a bodybugg, nor did I want to buy one, so i decided to look into if anyone rents the bodybugg. Sure enough there is a site called focused fitness that rents the bodybugg for $20/week. I was thinking of doing this just for a week, just to see.

My question have people found the bodybugg accurate? Does it base calorie burn on heart rate, not just on an algorithm? because I take medication which lowers my heart rate.

if anyone has input/advice comments on the bodybugg, please post. Again, I am only trying this because of the rental I found.

The bodybugg doesn't measure heart rate, but rather measures perspiration and temperature to guage how many calories you're burning.

Hope this helps!

oh ok.......do you own one?? do you like it? do you find it accurate? do you think a week long rental is long enough to get an idea of my average cals burned?

Wow, renting one would be awesome!

I work outdoors wandering around the woods and driving an ATV all day and it would be awesome to know how many calories I am burning.

Sorry that wasn't helpful at all!

thats ok..here is the website where you can rent one for $20/week. http://www.focusedfitnesslifestyle.com/bodybu gg.htm  I havent really read up on it, but there doesnt seem to be any strings attached. Although it would be intersting to know when the "week" begins, if it is the day you receive the bodybugg, or the day they ship it out - there is a big difference there. I am going to call the place to get the details, They are located in new mexico.

Hey! i just got mine two weeks ago and am pretty impressed. the bugg site is VERY accurate! if you have any more ?s you can message me! :D

There is a monthly subscription that goes along with the BB.  Without that subscription, you cannot upload your info to check your stats and track them over the long term.  I think it's between $10-16 per month.  I would definately check the sight about the subscription fee.  There is a watch that you use in tandem with the BB that gives you real-time readouts of your caloric expenditure, number of steps taken, etc.  I'm not sure though if this can be used in place of the online site.

"Without that subscription, you cannot upload your info to check your stats and track them over the long term. "

I am assuming that is what the $20 a week covers: the website reads:

We rent the bodybugg® for $20 per week. The bodybugg® rental also comes with a watch that displays your calories burned, steps taken during the day, and the amount of time you've been active. You will also have access the bodybugg® website where you will upload the information stored in the arm band. You may also log what you eat, and it will calculate your calorie deficit. It also creates weekly meal plans for you.

I am not interested in "long term tracking" I am just interested in seeing how many calories I burn for a few days and then averaging it. Then I will return the bodybugg.

I'm only on day 4 of having a bodybugg, but I really like it. When you upload your data, it shows your steps/activity in a graph. The result is that while at my desk job, I make sure I get up and walk around to avoid having an hour with zero steps (oh the horror!). There's no way that you can kid yourself and say that you were active when you weren't.

Since I got mine new, it came with a six-month subscription for free. If I'm still using it regularly at the end of the six months, I'll go ahead and sign up for a year, which is $100. I think the month-to-month plan is around $16, so it's a significant difference.
