Question about calories burned!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm just curious:

CC splits the type of jogging into general, in place, speeds, on trampoline, etc. These all differ slightly. What level of intensity are they? And more specifically, when it says "in place" does it mean treadmill, or flat floor?

I usually do about 45 minutes of jogging in the morning and again at night (while I'm doing my homework). I know the repeated up-and-down pounding on my feet is probably not very good, but it's the only way I can get exercise into my day. I have a strange habit of jogging faster (on the spot) when I'm concentrating on something else and listening to music. At the end though, I feel quite accomplished (BAM! 2 things done!) and measure my heartrate... which is usually in the range of 38-40 beats per 15 seconds or 150+bpm. I'm also sweating a great deal but not breathing heavily at all.

I guess another question is, if I'm not feeling very challenged by the exercise, does my heartrate mean anything? Are the calories still being burnt efficiently?

I know my maximum heartrate is 206 bpm (14 years old here). Do I log this exercise as 45-mins of jogging in place, or 45-mins jogging in general, because I've been doing this since last Christmas and my body is probably already used to the exercise?

Thank you to everyone in advance!

why does my post misspell everything?

you burn around 100 calories per mile regardless of how fast you run or walk. Obvioulsy the higher your heart rate is the more calories per mile you burn but that increase is not significant. This is why speed walking has become such a hot topic.

But... if I'm jogging on the spot, how do I know if I'm 'travelling' the same distance as if I was outdoor jogging? Is the energy expended the same?
