Question about calories you drink
I was just wondering if everyone adds the calories they drink into their total calories for the day. I drink water mostly, but sometimes I have coffee with light cream, juice or some kind, or just something with some flavor. Water gets boring! lol Well, I usually add these calories into my daily allowance. But when you look at it, none of it really has any nutrtional value. I could easily spend my whole allowance on just drinks. Coffee being the main one. The cream I use has 35 calories per serving and I usually only put 2 servings in my coffee. But I like my coffee much sweeter than that most of the time, so sometimes I put in more like 4 servings.
Yes I add any cream sugar that i put in my coffee to my daily totals.
Oddly enough i dont count my crystal lite that i drink. but it only adds to be about 20cal per day .. and im usually atleast that much under my goal anyway.

I only log the drinks that have calories. Things like unsweetened iced tea don't really make a difference, so I don't bother. With things like juice and cream, I would definitely log them. The calories in juice can add up pretty quickly. I used to be a total juice addict, but I've recently overcome my addiction. Before I started counting calories, I was easily drinking 1000 calories in juice alone every day. Now, if I really want juice, I either eat a piece of fruit or just add a small splash of pure cranberry juice to a big glass of water. I've gotten used to the diluted flavor, and I find it just as satisfying.
Yes I log them, and I have realized how many more calories like juice, gaorade, and vitamin water have that we don't realize. If you drink a lot you could be neglecting to add a couple hundred calories.
thanks for your responses. I was just curious because I love coffee and since the cream that I like is higher in calories I often talk myself out of it because it's a waste of calories. I always add it into my count, but usually by the end of the day Im still hungry because I drank my calories rather than ate them, and end up eating something and going over my goal.
I don't usually log my 5 calorie low sodium bouillon, but I would definitely log items that have 35 calories.

I definatly add them in. It sucks because some days i find i drink so many empty calories. And the drinks sometimes is where people are gain the weight from. (myself aswell)

i would add your calories from drinks, they are still calories right?? plus 100 calorie soda doesn't fill you up as much as 100 calories of food does, so it's easy to go over your calorie allowance if your drinking calories too! a lot of people swear by diet drinks but i think aspartame is really bad for you and i'd avoid it. i just drink water, i have tea without adding sugar/cream, and i just add in juice or alchohol drinks. i would much rather eat my calories! and yes they are mostly empty of nutritional value. when i stopped drinking soda and made no other diet changes i lost at least 5 lbs. instantly.
I log anything over 5 cal. like some others mention. I only drink two cups of coffee a day and thought I was putting only a splash of cream or milk in until I actually measured one morning and found I used exactly a 1/4 cup! It adds up quickly in a years worth of coffee drinking. I count it in now for sure and put it in as part of my dairy consumption.
I drink a hell of alot of coffee. I only use 1 sweetner per cup and a little bit of skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, but I have never counted the calories for my coffee and that hasn't even done me any harm =) Although If I have a hot cocolate or an orange juice or something similar then I will count that.. <3
Well I guess I'm weird because I log EVERYTHING, including water hehe. I like to see how much water I've gotten that day. I leave the meal box blank so it shows up at the top by itself. I can't seem to get to 8 cups yet, but I'm still trying :)
I have actually counted beverage calories earlier on in my diet - it was outrageous! I have just recently cut back (of course not completely, Im human) to drinking with friends (alcohol) and coffee with skim in the morning. I have also found a wonderful new friend in TEA - I absolutely love it ( : There are so many flavors and benefits, not to mention the extra added bonus that it fills you up!
Just a thought...
I try to avoid drinking my calories (The exception being fat-free milk) 6 days a week and treat myself on the seventh with 1-2 glasses of wine or beer. Gotta, Gotta, Gotta, be realistic about losing weight or you will fail after just a few weeks. Treat yourself once in a while.

I rarely bother logging coffee. The milk I put in it I do log. Anything under 50 calories unless I'm having a lot of them or I'm trying to get a more exact calculation for some reason I don't bother to track.
Measure out your juice and milk, too... you'd be surprised to see how little 8 ounces really is. Eyeballing it leads to underestimation of 30-50%, even though I've been measuring for a year, I never got good at eyeballing drink portions.
Mostly water/tea/diet soda, in that order, with water being the bulk of it.
