I have a question about calories.

Okay, so does weight gain go by your daily calorie allowence or weekly?

Like say you went over your daily allowence a couple of times in the week, but at the end of the week you added your calories up and still hit maitenence as you'd went under on a few other days for the full week would it go by that? Or would you gain as you'd went over a few days?

Personal opinion...I'd go by weekly calories..you don't put significant weight on overnight so the occasional calorie over-run won't hurt , as long as you eat within your calorie allowance most days and ensure you are maintaining over the week.

 

 

well at every moment you're technically losing or gaining, but it would be inefficient to look at the micromoments rather than the big picture. if you overeat one day then that day you might have gained a minor amount of weight, which is likely to come off the next day when you create a deficit; thus, the net effect was no loss or gain. but if you consistently have more deficits than surplusses then at the end of a week you will have lost weight. it's more efficient to look at the average across the week than the day because you cna also have minor fluctuations in your weight just based on what you ate that day and when your last BM was. You should really try to look at it daily because youll make greater strives if everyday your losing a little weight, instead of not loosing any or even gain some on other days. Every day adds up and its better if you dont try and find loop holes, just stick to the goal. Youll getter results faster.

Weight gain, loss, and maintenance goes weekly, monthly, yearly. If someone managed to eat ten calories under their maintenance level every single day, they would weigh a pound less after a year-- and the inverse if they ate just ten calories over. Unlike the calorie clocker here on CC, your body is continuous throughout time.

I find that weighing myself weekly, instead of daily, helps me keep track of the big picture and not allow small fluctuations to upset my mood. Fluctuations can come from water retention (from food, salt, or exercise), your cycle, and mysterious gnomes. It's best to just concentrate on healthful foods and plenty of water, day to day, and see how your weight is trending over weeks and months.

If you're talking about trying to maintain a numerical, accurately logged deficit (or maintenance) every day, I agree (though I think you're misunderstanding the person above you). If you're suggesting fixating on the number on the scale every morning, I strongly disagree. Setting such narrow goals on an ultimately unpredictable number sets you up for a bad relationship with food-- and will probably make you more likely to feel unsuccessful and want to give up entirely.

You dont have to weigh yourself everyday, just keep track of the calories and eventually you will notice the weight start to come off. Just dont let the deficit occur. You dont want to eat too many calories in one day and than have it be that much harder to burn off because it was turned into fat instead of used up right away. If everyday you stick to your goal you are guaranteed to loose the weight without worrying if your going to make up that deficit for that week or that month or who knows how long.
