I am absolutely, unequivocally unwilling to give up or even cut down on cheddar cheese. That said, I am confused about how many calories it has. According to C-C it is 113 calories per slice. So what exactly constitutes a slice? This means that any sandwich I make has 500 calories from cheese alone. That cannot be right. WTF?

You are better off going by oz's and weighing your cheese. One persons slice would be different from another persons slice.

I wont give up cheese either, but eat it in moderation, because it does have a lot of calories!
its the dam saturated fats!!!! boooo

ive given up cheese and now go for lowfat soft cheese.

my house mates buy these presliced cheedar cheese slices. its like only 35cal a slice. maybe try doing that?
I"m going to assume that by "slice" they mean the slice that you would typically get if you bought the cheese individually prepackaged.

Assuming you don't use that kind, search around the net or CC if there are any other measurements you can use to figure out the calorie content.

And yes, cheese on sandwiches definitely can add up to a fair amount..not sure about 500 unless you use a lot of cheese..but it does add up!
The estimate that I found is that one ounce of cheese is about the size of one deli slice.  For cheddar cheese, that is about three inches square and an eighth of an inch thick.  Not very much.  I'm a huge cheese lover myself, but I've forced myself to cut back in light of the inescapable truth that cheddar cheese is incredibly high in calories.
Is there perhaps an equally yummy substitute? Something lower in cals? I mean, it doesn't get much betta then chedda, but if anyone has any ideas please let me know!

A serving of any cheese is one ounce.  That's a slice of that prepackaged stuff.  I love really good, hard cheddar - the real thing, not orange and sliced!

i use a cheese slicer and just slice it off the block.  if my slicer is set on the smallest setting it ends up to be one oz andthe same size as a store bought slice.
