Question about clomid use and ovulation???

Quote  |  Reply
I am using clomid for the first time and my doctor said to take it days 5-9.  When is ovulation likely to occur?  What days would be best to try and conceive?  ALso, anyone have any side effects or problems with clomid use?  Thanks!!

I really didn't have any side effects but I am surprised the doctor didn't tell you when to expect ovulation.  I don't remember off hand but I think its from day 11 - 15.  I used an ovulation kit to predict mine because I was so sick of guessing.  You have to pee on a stick every morning around the time and it does cost $ but for me it was weeelll worth it!  Got preg. 1st time with clomid.

Good Luck!!!!

Thanks.  I can't remember what my doctor said, I thought he said around day 16 (for ovulation?).  I bought the OV predictor kit already..  I'm just waiting now!  I hope I am as lucky with the clomid as you!  Did you have problems with irregular periods before using clomid?  We have been trying for over 2 years...  and I can go months without one!  I am taking Prometrium now, every few months to "force" a period.  Then I might have one on my own and then it stops again...

I did have irregular periods.  I was on the pill for years so it didn't matter but when we were trying to get preg. and I finally started to keep track it was anywhere from 18 days to 64 days so I could never predict.  After 2 years is when we stated with the doc and eventually did clomid.  Oh I didn't mention that I have boy/girl twins so be aware!  Love them to death though!!

First of all I would like to tell you that I am sorry that you TTC for 2 years with no luck and secondly I hope clomid works for you. I have a lot of friends that have gotten pregnant on clomid :)

Statistics show that a woman ovulates 5-9 days after the last pill of clomid so you should expect ovulation between CD 14-18 but dont get discouraged if you do not get a positive OPK between this window because that is only statistics.

Also, is your Dr monitoring you with u/s & bw? Are you charting your BBT & CM?

Clomid has lots of side effects, the most common is hot flashes and a change in your CM. While I was on clomid I took my pill at night and it helped with the hot flashes and used preseed (sperm friendly lubricant) and did well. I did not get pregnant on my rounds of clomid and am saving for more aggressive ART procedures.

I also do not have regular cycles but that is a whole different story...

Good Luck and best wishes to you.
