Question about cottage cheese

Quote  |  Reply

So I've never really been a big fan of cottage cheese because the texture kind of creeped me out. I've read on the forums about whipped cottage cheese, which apparently has a texture like ricotta, which I love. At the grocery store today I could find any of the whipped, so I just bought small curd and whipped it myself!

My cottage cheese went from 2 cups per container to just under 3. Obviously the calorie content would change per half cup serving. Should I just add the calories for the whole package and divide by 3 to figure new calorie content? Or should I just log it with the original calorie content?

Heeeelp! What would you do?

take the total calories in the container and divide it by how many servings you're going to divide it into. :)

Hope that helps!

It does, thanks!!

I didn't know if my logic made sense or not.

Just a side note as well:  cottage cheese is one of the best foods to eat for weight loss (high protein low carbs). I eat 2 cups a day along with egg whites and tuna. I can agree with you that the texture is kinda iffy but the nutritional benifits of eating it are worth it. If all else fails do what i do.... put hot sauce on it! Hot sauce (franks red hot) makes everything taste good! Lol..

I eat cottage cheese for breakfast everyday.  I put some on top of a whole grain flaxseed waffle then sprinkle some splenda and cinnamon - and voila!  The texture of the cottage cheese gets mixed in with the texture of the waffle so it's not so weird.  :-)

It is really good with good fresh sliced tomatos and some cayenne or some sort of spicy cajun seasoning, or just plain ol salt & pepper.  I could eat it every day if the tomatos are good.

I like it w/grapes or fresh pineapple and a little salt. I get some weird looks sometimes but I think it's delicious!

lp I'm gonna try it w/tomatoes now too :)

did whipping it help? the texture totally skieves me outi would love to actaully be able to eat it!
I will second the poster who suggested hot sauce; however, I would only use tabasco sauce. From my experience regular hot sauce, ANY brand, is absolutely loaded with sodium. I'm pretty sure tabasco sauce may have a mere 30 mg of sodium per teaspoon - but it is so hot with some great bold flavor that you can't use that much for it to have an effect on the taste of your food. I used to have literally about 8-10 tablespoons of ketchup with practically every meal. One day I tried hot sauce and now I think it tastes better and all I use is maybe the equivalent of 1/2 tablespoon. That's saving me tons of calories and sodium.

Whipping it did help! The texture is closer to ricotta now, but it's still a little curd-y. Nothing I couldn't handle, and I've been swearing off cottage cheese for years.

Thanks for all the suggestions on how to eat it, guys! I've decided I'm going to just go ahead and pretend it's ricotta and mix it in with some whole wheat pasta and marinara for lunch tomorrow. Or I might try it for breakfast on my nutrigrain waffle with some strawberries. Thanks again!
