Question about dying my hair

I haven't washed my hair with shampoo in a few days (gross, I know) and now I'm about to use a home hair dye.  Do I need to wash my hair furst to get the grease out of it?  The box says not to wash it first and says hair should be dry.  Do you think the build up in my hair will hinder the color from holding?  I'm not doing anything drastic, just refreshing my current color.

Do not wash your hair first. Do as the directions advise. If you wash your hair first it may become too dry and damage your hair. You will be fine.

I agree, don't wash it.  The dye can still work well even if there is "build up".  I went to have my hair done not long ago and when I went in I had hairspray type product in it, and I asked if that was ok (I also hadn't washed it since earlier the day before) and she said oh yeah dye can get through =)

better NOT to wash your hair before you coloring. it just dries it out more :)

I dunno about you but gross or not, I can't possibly wash my hair everyday, otherwise, I look like I stuck my finger in a light socket.
