I have a question about eggs...
Are they good or bad for you? Because I always saw 2 scrambled eggs as a good way to get protein in the morning and it is completely healthy. Although I heard some bad things about them.
So, what are the possitives and the negatives? What's the best way to cook them? How often should I have them?
A lot of people don't like them because they're high in cholesterol and fat, but that's the egg yolk. If you just eat the egg whites, you get most of the protein and none of the cholesterol or fat.
Personally, I think most of the flavor is in the yolks though. When I eat an egg, I eat the whole darn thing... or three of them! But I only eat them once every few weeks at the most.
I eat 2 whole eggs every single day and my cholesterol has always come back perfectly normal. I think you'd only have to worry about it if you have cholesterol issues, which thankfully, I never have.
Yolks have a lot of good nutrients and healthy fats. There was this scare about cholesterol in the eggs, and it has grown in to a myth. In reality research has shown that dietary cholesterol in eggs has no effect on blood cholesterol. So in moderation eggs are ok.

I have an egg every other day, was having them every day for a while but got bored with it.
I eat the whole thing. Your body needs SOME fat and cholesterol. Its not deep fried and I don't use butter - so I'm not too concerned about it.

I think the general medical consensus right now is that eggs are good for you, however it used to be opposite and will probably change back and forth forever.
The whole eggs/cholesterol thing is a non-issue. Almost all cholesterol in your blood is produced by your own body in reaction to your overall diet. Cholesterol you digest is pretty much a non-issue, provided it's a moderate amount. That means that eating a few eggs a week is not a problem. Eating 3-4 a day, every day, as a lot of people used to do, can lead to problems, but even then, if the rest of your diet is healthy and natural, I still don't think it would be an issue.
My concern with eggs is the quality of the food you get from chickens kept in pens, fed unnatural diets and given medications to keep them from getting sick. I stick to organic eggs, where the chickens get their natural diets and the chickens are not kept in cages and given medications, which I think results in a superior tasting egg, with better nutrition and none of the potential drawbacks associated with the poor diet and chemical stews given to penned up chickens.
I used to have chickens in my back yard. My favorite perk: Double yolk eggs! Seriously, as a child you would think I had won the lottery to see how excited I was to get two yolks from one egg.

I used to have 2 eggs every few days until I found out they may not be that healthy. I usually have them scrambled, poched, (is that how you spell it?lol) or hard boiled. I have them over salad sometimes and it's pretty good!
Thank you guys for getting that cleared up for me. I'm kind of concerned about cholesteral, but if it's every few days it's not going to harm me. So I will go back to having them every few days. :)
I have one question though. Overall, 1/10, how good are they for you. 1 being big mac or something, and 10 being ... idk... super super awesome...? lol

You're in Canada right? I don't know if it's different there, but in the US organic eggs still come from chickens that eat an unnatural diet and live in cages.
Otherwise, eggs are good for you. I eat 1-2 dozen a week. Dietary cholesterol doesn't affect blood cholesterol.
I do buy some eggs from the supermarket when I run out and have no choice or don't want to wait and I buy Presidents Choice brand which are supposed to be free run and fed a more natural diet but of course I didn't visit the facility. I buy most of my eggs from a local poultry farmer and I have visited the facility and I saw how the chickens were raised for myself, what they ate etc.
More and more, I try to visit places locally where food is grown because around the Kitchener area there are lots of farms that sell directly to the public so you have the opportunity to see what's going on and ask questions directly to the producers of the food. After you're satisfied with the operation, most of them have a place in town to buy their produce as well, like a Farmer's Market or something, so you don't always have to drive out to the farm. I think if you get a chance to talk to a farmer they are usually pretty excited to talk about their operation, because in order to take the steps to be cleaner, more environmentally friendly, healthier, you have to have some measure of passion for your profession, beyond the average.
I accept that it could well be in my head, but I find that organic eggs taste creamier/smoother/richer, or something along those lines but as I said, it could be a chicken and egg thing...lol...
I recently found an organic farm out near where I live, and the vegetables might honestly be the best I've ever had.
Best part, though they are rather expensive (compared to similar non-organic fare), you can volunteer at the farm for free vegetables. A couple of hours a week and I'm swimming in fresh squash, eggplant, dill, basil... it's great.
Now that's different Minda..what a great idea!!! I'd do that in a heartbeat!!
I love eggs. I could eat them everyday for every meal but I don't think that's a good idea. I tried the egg beaters which are pretty good and has about 30 calories per serving (1/4 cup). Try it out.
