Question about my elliptical

Quote  |  Reply
My machine?s settings and the manual are in English so I just figured the distance was in miles.  According to the numbers I?m doing 14 in 45 minutes.  Am I in some incredible shape or is the machine in kilometers?  It's an Orbitrek and it comes to about 330 calories too. If I'm Wonder Woman I want to know about it or is my machine busted?

hey song, is it possible it's keeping a running total of miles?  is there a way to clear all the numbers before each workout?  i suppose it's possible you've gone 14 miles in 45 minutes...  my elliptical measures steps and calories, not miles.  i love the elliptical, don't you?
Yes, I love it.  I feel like the little rabbit with the battery that just keeps going and going.  Sometimes I go backwards, I?m trying to improve my balance and try ?look ma no hands?, next is no hands and eyes closed. I know I?m doing more than 14 steps and every time I stop it automatically sets back to the zeros.
i dont' know, then.  sorry :-(  but keep at it.  i usually do my cool down completely hands free coz i go too fast the rest of the time!  do you keep track of your daily workouts?  i started doing that a few months ago and aim for a weekly workout of at least 300 minutes.  it's helped keep me extra motivated.
Thanks Beth, yes I log it on every time (I try for every day).  It's such a good feeling when I'm finished especially when I've almost said oh, I'll skip today and then don't.  That's the thing, once I'm on I go until I hit 45minutes or 300 calories.  About a week ago it was getting too easy and so I started looking to improve my distance within the same 45 min.  Before I hit 13:something, now I'm around 14:50.  I always figured it was miles but started questioning after reading CC members running goals and my number seemed way too high so maybe it's in kilometers.  I wish I knew.  If I don't get an answer here I'll get on line to the Orbitrek people.

Hi song I use an eliptical too. Mine measures each 1/4 mile maybe yours is the same. It will say the distance is 16 but it will really be just 4 miles. Hope that helps!!!:)
that actually makes sense, no??
Thanks, baker :D  Yea, that makes a lot more sense and helps a lot.
mine says M but its in Kilometres
You know... English canadians use Kilometres
Yes, I thought that too, kilometers.  Either way it's fun and I love working up a sweat.  I think I'd better get a hold of the Orbitrek people to know for sure.  Thanks all for your help.
Don't you have any books that comes with it?? Like a user guide or something?
Yes, it mostly gets into the part pieces and directions on how to put it together.  Nothing about the distance.
Baaaahhhh! I like the idea that you are a wonder woman cause you are in my team for the competition!!! Yeah!!!!
Maybe I'll change my name back to Wonder Woman.  It was my nick name during my first year in College.  I whooped ass and I can do it again in Phat Fighters. Go Go Go Kick Kick Punch
14 miles in 45 minutes would put you running about about 18 mph. That would be really awesome if you are running that fast, but Olympic sprinters run the 100-m dash at about 23 mph. So unless you really are Wonder Woman, it's unlikely that the machine is giving you miles :-)
Thanks haileycat, Yea, I've been checking into it more.  I'm going to stay with the image of Wonder Woman in my mind anyway.  I sent the question to the manufacturers so hopefully they will get back to me.   : )

Hi Songchild,

I have recently continued the hunt for the "meaning" of the "distance" mode in my Orbitrek. I came across your posting in the forum.  Did the manufacturer get back to you on how to read the distance on your Orbitrek? Is it 1/4 mile, 1 mile or 1 km? Do share please? Thanks.
On my elliptical, it measures "laps" which is 1/4 mile (like a standard race track), so as someone else posted, 16 would mean 4 miles.

If yours is like mine, and are doing 14 in 45 minutes, that's abut 3.5 miles, which is a good, realistic pace.

My machine has a button that you can alternate between "laps" and "distance," so that's what I'm going off of...but it's not an Orbitrek.
Mine is in miles and it says I run about 10 miles in 40 minutes (working my butt off). It also says I do 15 MPH which makes sence for the 10 miles, but I don't know that I'm actually going 10 miles.

You can't really compare it to running though because 1 stride would take you further than 1 step. I guess it would almost be more comparable to biking. Does anyone know how fast bikers normally go (in MPH)?

I believe so geminmd. I did 25 and was able to go further without any hard pushing in less then an hour. Probably some 50 min. or less.

It's got to be measured like bike, in ex. normal speed of workout 35. But it doesn't say the measuing unit.

Oh, by the way I'm in Europe.

Good luck on your workout.
