Question about Exercising
I have a question. I have been going to the gym (not lately just because I have been sick) but when I go, I use the elipical training. While I am using it, I burn about 60 calories. But also I can go add activies and use the light elipical training which says that I burned more calories. Which is right and which should I use?
I am 328 pounds at 5'4". I am just puzzled. I know if you are heavier, you burn more calories? Or am I wrong? Please set me straight! ![]()

I use the elliptical trainer as well. When I log my activity, I log it to match the same amount of calories as what the machine says, because I think it is the most accurate. I find in general the activities seem to be over estimating actual calories burned.
What I do is log my activity on the underestimated side to be conservative about my calorie balance. For example, if I play tennis for 2 hours, I will only log it as 1 or 1.5 hours. I tend to do the same for logging food, I over estimate what calories I've consumed, to be conservative. This way I know I'm meeting my 500 calorie deficit.
are you entering your weight, height, and age into the eliptical before you begin your workout?? if you are i would use the calorie count on the eliptical. if you aren't then it is telling you how many calories someone who weighs like 125 lbs would burn and you are correct in thinking that if you are heavier you burn more calories- but that will slow down with age but not that much. I hope this helps.
