Hello all.
I had a fever earlier today and it was 101 degrees. I've had a slight sore throat for the past few days as well. My fever is completely gone now, and I feel better.
Is it strange to have a fever of 101 degrees come and go in the same day?
Anyone?
No. Not at all strange. A fever is how the body responds to an invader. The increased heat does two things: it increases your own metabolism to get your immune system rushing to the scene of the crime to get rid of the invader and it also inhibits the invader's ability to multiply (they are temperature sensitive like us).
Our bodies try to regulate a fever so it is just enough to inhibit the invader but not enough to kill us off. 101 is just about right for pulling that off.
Fevers of 103.5 or worse (in an adult) are when it gets a bit out of hand and the body can actually cook its own proteins (not good).
A fever doesn't have to last days and may only last a few hours, as it did in your case.
You feel better then you're done. If it comes back, then you pay attention again (sometimes there are secondary infections). So glad you're well!
