First, I would like to say that this website and the people on it are great.  Second, If I eat 1200 calories and I exercise and burn 200 calories am I suppose eat 1400 calories to to keep 1200? If yes then can I just eat 1200 and not exercise to get the same result?

Your question doesn't have enough information for a good answer. How many calories do you burn in a day? (use the Account feature to see the comparison of what you log in food to what you log in activity)

Exercise builds muscle - and muscle burns more calories that other body tissues. If you want healthy weight loss, you must add exercise to your program.

For example: My body burns about 1700 calories per day at a sedentary level. If I eat 1200 calories, with no exercise, I will lose about a pound a week. When I exercise at Curves, my calories burned increases to 1950 for that day. I can make a choice... eat 1200 calories and lose weight a bit faster, or eat up to 250 calories more and still lose at the pound a week rate.

I choose to eat more, because it keeps me satisfied.
So the goal is to always eat at least 1200 calories no mater how much I exercise. 
Yes, if you are female - never eat less than 1200 calories.  If you are male, eat 1500 or more.

Use the account questionnaire  - give your age, sex, level of activity (I suggest sedentary, then log in your activity) and see what you are recommended to eat. 

If you are young, its likely that 1200 is way too little.  If you have deficits of 1000 or more each day, your body will not release fat as quickly as if you eat more.. sounds crazy but true.
the 1200 calorie limit doesnt work for everyone though, dem. if you are a larger female, 1200 calories can still be too little for your body to feed itself and remain healthy. have you used the allowance and expenditure tools to figure out what calorie-count recommends you should be eating per day?
My calorie allowance is 1750 and my expenditure is 2550. This is set at light activity. I eat around 1200 to 1500 calories and about once a week I will allow myself to eat about 2000-2500 calories.  Am I on the right track
