I'm a swimmer, and the winter swim season is starting up again in a few weeks. At practice, I swim for around an hour and a half every morning before school. It tends to burn me around 550-700 calories, which is good. However, I'm not sure if I should still go to the gym and workout on days when I have practice. I love going to the gym and being able to lift weights and things that I can't do at practice, but I don't want to exercize too much and burn way more calories than I can eat, you know? What should I do about this? Go to practice during the week, and the gym on the weekends? Stop going to the gym in general?

This sounds more like a question you should be asking your coach, especially since a gym program that isn't properly tailored to your training can be counter productive to your performance.

I'd be careful not to burn out, but if you find it doesn't affect your swimming performance, I'd say go for it and grab some protein bars or smoothies to make up for the calories.

I remember reading something in the New Rules Of Lifting  book about this but my book is in the locker at the gym , but if I recall correctly there are certain lifts that are good for certain sports while others not so good.

I would 2nd the person above saying to contact your coach -
