Question for girl emotional eaters...

Quote  |  Reply

I'm doing pretty well controlling my emotional eating except for my pms week. In that week all of my will power goes away, I get depressed, I turn into a bottomless pit and I binge! I don't splurge, eat a little extra or anything else you want to call it. I flat out binge... I could eat two bags of top ramen, a can of spaghetti-os and a bag of chips and still feel hungry. Other than this week though I almost always have really good will power and I was curious if any other emotional eaters have this issue. Let me know if you have any tips to fight the urge to binge that week!

I am definitely familiar with the binging!!!! I have been trying to lose weight since I had my daughter at age 22. I wasn't "overweight" before I got pregnant, but while pregnant with her I was very sick the first 3 months and thought I might lose her. So once I was over the sickness, I ate everything in sight and gained 65 pounds. Needless to say I didn't lose it all right away and didn't want to diet while breastfeeding so I kept eating everything in sight. When I did start to diet, I decided to diet during the week and reward myself on the weekend....so on the weekend I binged and binged. There were days where I ate so much I got sick. It was ridiculous!! I can't say that after almost 2 years, I still don't have a day here or there that I don't do this. I try to keep healthy foods around to binge on when I get that feeling. My tips for you are to keep yourself busy. Eat something and then go for a walk to get your mind off of food. Gum helps me a lot too when I get that feeling. If you get any other good tips let me know because the Lord knows that I still need help with the binging!!! Good luck!

I have had a problem all my life with binging.  My problem is that sometimes I don't know my own triggers and before I know it, I too will eat everything and anything in sight.  Even if I don't bring junk food into the house - whatever is around is fair game.  I agree msgearhart, when you feel a binge come on GET OUT of the house!!  Go to the mall, go around the block - anywhere, just take a walk.  The busier you keep yourself, the better chances of avoiding the temptation.  Good luck :)
