If you're lactose intolerant, do you normally take Lactaid pills (or alternative) with your dairy foods? If so, how much do you normally take?
Thanks!
Hi
My husband is lactose intolerant, although he seems to be growing out of it. But anyway, he used to take Lactaid. He would take one with the first bite of his food. You can also try the generic lactose pills, they work just as well.
I'm lactose intolerant and purchase Lacteeze or Lactaid milk so that is easy. Don't seem to have a problem with yogurt but do with most cheese. I usually chew 3 lactaid tablets with the first mouthful of foods like pizza or cheese topped items or if I don't know what the ingredients are - there's milk lurking in many foods as I've unfortunately found out the hard way in the past.
I think there's also lactaid drops you can add to your regular milk and in cooking but I've never tried them.
You may want to look into enzyme supplements. Appearantly after the age of 2 or 3 our body quits producing something (forget what exactly) to break down the lactose. I imagine because we weren't intended to consume other animals' milk. Anyway, the enzyme supplement supposedly repopulates lactose 'consuming' bacteria in your digestive tract. You might want to research it. I've never tried it.
Hi,
im lactose intolerant, i take Lactaid soft chews usually before i eat anything cheesy. I have had luck with the pills and soft chews in the past. sometimes if its ice cream or something i'll pop two just to be sure. I found that even lactaid milk doesnt seem to always be the best, so i switched to soy milk.
hope that helps.
