Question to ladies with PCOS and having children or pregnant

Quote  |  Reply
If you don't mind sharing... were you able to get pregnant without any medication, I mean normal? What precautions, advice would you give me? Here are my details...

I am 29, was diagnosed with PCOS last year. Since then, with dietary regulations and exercise, I have managed to lose 20 something pounds and am in ideal weight. I would love to become a mommy :), but I am not sure if I can without any medical help, as that's what my gyn had told me. My gyn had put me on Yasmin which I stopped taking last month.

Yes, I would be going to my doctor to ask these questions and a medical check up, but I was hoping if I can get some knowledge on real experiences from ladies who are in same condition as me.

I have PCO's and I have been trying to get pregnant for years.   The best thing I can give you is a web site that is excellent support for PCO's.  It is www.soulcysters.com   There are people on the site that have had kids with hardly any problems.

My niece has PCO's and has a beautiful little boy.  And my sisters great niece has it and has 2 kids.   Both nieces didnt use any medication.  So just having it doesnt mean you are not able to have kids.

Good luck to you!

My best friend from college had undiagnosed PCOS for many years. She is neither overweight nor diabetic. She had irregular periods for many years. The only fortunate thing helping her was that she was on birth control for years also (about 8ish) so that prevented her ovaries from being destroyed by the disease.

Once she got married and wanted to have kids she couldn't get pregnant. When she finally did she miscarried (it turned out to be a genetic abnormality so may have been unrelated to the PCOS).

Finally after seeing a large number of doctors she was diagnosed with PCOS and put on glucophage. She conceived almost immediately and now has two healthy beautiful children with no complications.
I have PCOS, too.  I was put on glucophage (metformin) to conceive both of my children.  For both kids, it took me three months to get pregnant after going on the drug.  I also conceived while obese (if that helps) with no miscarriages.  However, I did have gestational diabetes from week 6 with the second baby (but I was borderline pre-diabetic when I was tested anyway).

My doctor told me that insulin resistance goes hand-in-hand with PCOS - so I would get tested for that as well.  If you are insulin resistant, then glucophage may work for you.

After I got pregnant, one of my girlfriends got tested for PCOS and IR, found to have both, was placed on glucophage and got pregnant a few months later.

I'm not saying that this method will work for EVERYONE with PCOS - but I have seen many success stories.  Check with your doctor to see if this course may be right for you.  Definitely try it before doing the whole "fertility" thing.

Good luck!  I hope you become a mommy really soon!  :)
