question about low cal breads (whole grain wheat)
so i've read many ppl talk about whole grain wheat breads that are like 35 - 40 calories per slice. I eat Brownberry 100% whole grain wheat that's 110 calories per slice. Is this too high cal? I admit that each slice is pretty big and very filling, but is this just too much a waste of calories? Should I switch breads? I mean, perhaps this brownberry brand is healthier, but a calorie is a calorie, isn't it? (Then again, that doesn't mean I should compare, let's say a 200 calorie meal rich with veggies and chicken, with a 200 calorie slice of pizza right? Some calories just aren't the same... right?)

There are definitely lower cal brands out there, just have a look around the grocery store. You could also just eat one slice at a time, cutting it in half, but I find two slices of lower cal bread to be more satisfying.
stay with the bread you're eating now, it's healthy and slowly absorbed by digestion.. should keep you energized for a while.
If the higher cal bread doesn't affect your daily cal goal - then I would keep it. I use the 35 cal a slice stuff, mainly because it also has a higher fiber content. As long as it is whole grain it should be fine.
okay i'll do just that. i feel pretty crappy right now thinking how much *extra* calories i ate for dinner... for dinner, i had two slices of bread with lots of salad. =*(
this won't go to your fat don't worry... just turning the carbs into fat would burn about 40-50 cals and digesting it burns some too..

ive heard about health express rye bread. super healthy bread with high fiber and protein content at 45 cal a slice. but i cant find that anywhere besides online stores. r there any good grocery market brands ive been missing?

Theres a brand I usually buy called Hollywood Thins. It comes in "Dark"(40 cals) and "Whole Wheat"(50 cals) It's really good but the slices are very thin.
but how big exactly are these 40-50 calorie slices that all of you guys are talking about??

The brand of bread I am eating is Oroweat Light 100% whole grain bread ... 40 calories a slice.
It is smaller, airier (less dense) and less satisfying than whole wheat bread that is 80-110 calories per slice. BUT ... and for me this is a big deal .... I can eat two slices of this light bread for every one slice of what I call "real" bread OR I can "spend" those calories elsewhere. (I like the psychological boost that comes from knowing I can have TWO pieces of bread rather than ONE piece.)
We also keep Milton's Multigrain bread in the house (for my husband), that is 110 calories. It tastes better, it is bigger, it is more filling, and it feels/looks/tastes like "real food". So ... sometimes I eat that bread (and plan accordingly ... since it has more carbs and more calories.)

heh they bulk the light breads with some much indigestible oat and wheat fiber. plus they use a tiny amount of whole wheat flour! they simply bulk the living hell out of it with wheat gluten and fiber.
SO in the end, your not getting the true nutrition from the whole wheat, your just getting a colon bomb from the added fiber.
PErsonally, i would opt for the 150 calorie a slice breads, they are real and all the fiber is coming from whole wheat flour and digestible carbohydrates.

I eat Healthy Life 99% fat free low carn white bread and on my package it says 2 SLICES ONLY 70 cal!!! diff from 80 cal on this site from peapod(a grocery delivery site here in Chicago)I know its not wheat but can't beat the cals....i like wheat more too
