Question about oatmeal
Is it healthy enough to have every morning. [quacker oatmeal whole roolled oats]
1/2 cup of oatmeal
1 cup of water and boil it.
Is this good or too many carbs?
I eat this every morning. Very healthy. Just add more to your breakfast, because having almost 150 calories of carbs (even from good grains) isn't going to sustain you very long for the morning.

I certainly hope it's healthy... I've been eating it almost every morning for the past 6 years!
I'm a complete oatmeal advocate, and there are lots of threads about it here on cc (just type oatmeal into the search forums bar).
I would recommend adding a fat and a protein with it though, it's more likely to stay with you, as the last poster mentioned. I consider oats a canvas, it's amazing how many "meals" you can make out of it! I know this sounds lame, but I'm really excited for you on your oatmeal journey!
I make mine the night before...and it involves no cooking. I mix 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup 1% milk and 1/2 cup lowfat plain yogurt. Mix in a bowl or to go container and leave in fridge overnight. By the morning it's ready to eat. Add any toppings you like on yours (I enjoy dried strawberries, walnuts and some brown sugar).
Add a sweetner (splenda for me), cinnamon, and cloves (ginger and nutmeg too, if you have them). Simple yet delicious.
It depends on your carb intake during the rest of the day really. In the mornings I eat 1/2 a cup of oatmeal made with water and 81g of banana cut up and on top of it. I usually eat a yogart with it (low carb yogart b/c it has more protein) so that the macro nutrients aren't leaning so heavily towards the carbs and so that it keeps me full longer. That's 49 carbs which is kindof high (45 w/out the yogart).
I used to put artificial sweetner in it (equal) until I found out how bad they are for your metabolism. I cut way back on the equal now and just put in a tsp of brown sugar in it.
IMPO, I think that it's better to eat most of your carbs earlier in the day and then lower carb more fat and protein rich foods after 3:00 pm. I have been losing weight more quickly than I was before I started doing this. I got the idea from one of my friends who is a personal trainer.
Oatmeal is extremely healthy! Even more so if they're old fashioned oats and not instant :) Don't add too much sugar and you'll be fine. Don't worry about the carbs oatmeal will help you feel full and it's a super healthy breakfast!
Oatmeal is great - making it with 2% or whole milk will add some protein and fat without a lot of calories. Like the other posters have said, adding a bit of fat and protein will make it stay with you longer.
I eat quacker oatmeal almost every morning.
I make it exactly like you do but I also drink a cup of 1% milk with it. I feel full for over 3 to 4 hrs.
its a very healthy breakfast!
Hey! Try instant oatmeal...1 to 2 minutes in the micro and your done. Add Cinnamon and 0 cal sweetener and your off!
