Question for people who have tried Weight Watchers...

Quote  |  Reply

Alright. So, I have been doing WW for forever, and I am wondering if I should be switching over to calorie counting.

I am consistantly hungry on WW, and I think its because I don't get to eat enough. I am allowed 25pts a day plus my extra weekly 35.

I just had breakfast. According to weight watchers, my breakfast was 8 points, but calorie-wise it was 340.

Did anyone find they could eat a bit more through calorie counting and still have weight loss success?

Well I've done WW and calorie counting and I find I eat about the same amount of food either way.   I don't know what kinds of foods you eat, but when doing WW or counting calories now, I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables that were low in points/calories so that i could a eat a larger volume of food.  By doing that I found I didn't really have problems with hunger.  I also try and eat every 2-3 hours through out the day to keep my appetite in check.

One thing you can do for a week to help make a decision is spend a week tracking both your points and calories.  It'll give you an idea of which strategy may be better for you.

Ive just found that I do better eating a diet with more healthy fats (fish, olive oil, etc) as it keeps me full longer. The only problem I find is that on WW, it really adds up these points quickly because to WW fat is fat.

I was also starving on WW.  I was undereating by about 800 calories a day!!   I got pale, not sleeping, feeling dizzy, extremely cranky and hardly lost anything because my body was clinging to every morsel I ate.  When I calculated it out I was only eating about 1200 cals.  At that time in my life I was very active all day at work and needed about 2000 cals a day in order to lose weight!!

Counting calories and tracking weight changes lead me to understand just how much food my body needs to maintain and lose and if I go under 1500 a day my metabolism will freeze up on me!  It took a couple of years of trial and error but I learned my lesson very well.

I started here about a year ago and had a hard time maintaining 2000 calories a day.  didn't really lose weight, maybe 5 pounds.  This summer I tried the online weight watchers program and ended up losing about 30 pounds.  I quit because my goal was to lose weight for a cruise.

I think what Weight Watchers does is that it teaches you to eat foods that are higher in fiber.  It penalizes you greatly for picking foods that are fatty because they cost too many points relative to their ability to satisfy you.  For example, eggs are two points each (90 calories) whereas a fiber one snack bar is also two points (140 calories).  If you pick the foods that are high in fiber, they fill you more.

that said, I'm going back to this type of weight loss now to see how it works if I continue to eat foods that are higher in fiber.

On WW, I always ate my entire points per week, sometimes going over and using up activity points that I had earned.  WW wants you to eat all of your points.  I don't know if Agana did that?  800 seems ridiculously low.
