A question regarding starvation mode and gastric bypass surgery.
I do believe in starvation mode.
But what I wonder is about people who have a gastric bypass.. wouldn't they eventually just automatically go into starvation mode? If their stomach is literally the size of a thumb.. how could they possibly consume enough calories in a day not to?
Also don't forget that there is an enormous difference in the way a body of person with a couple pounds to lose acts and the way the body of a person with a couple hundred pounds to lose acts.
This is actually a question I ask a lot and no one seems to have a consistent answer on. I had a RNY done 6 yrs or so ago. I lost weight, had 2 babies and have gained 50 lbs back. No biggie to me, its frustrating but I feel like 50 lbs is doable. So, I'm here. Logging. Counting calories. Exercising. I feel GREAT when I eat 600 cal per day. Every one screams at me about starvation mode blah blah. So, my body survived losing 225 lbs and had no real side effects so...whats wrong with only 600 cals now? You're body can't stay in starvation mode forever. It eventually HAS to give in and start using what it stores. Its self preservation.
Now my dear friend who is a nutritionist tells me, no, your body just slows down and gets used to functioning on the 600. *shrug* I don't know.
Anyone have any FACTUAL information to share?
