Question about Spaghetti Noodles
Okay, so when I make spaghetti noodles, the box says that my WW noodles are 200 calories for 2 oz of noodles. Is that dry noodles? Or is that 2 oz after they are cooked? I know this might be a stupid question but 2 oz of cooked noodles ... is not very much at all so it made me wonder. I want to log the noodles correctly so that I don't go under my needed calories. Does anyone know the answer to this?
Thanks bunches in advance!
Gwen
I'm pretty sure it's dry. It's frustrating because a lot of grains/pasta give you the uncooked weight. Not very helpful when you're eating leftovers!
I cook my spaghetti and then weigh it and log it. CC has cooked spaghetti in its database. I only use the info on the box if I have to.
Calorie counts (and other nutrition info) on packets are always given for the contents 'as sold' unless they state otherwise. So, in your case, it's the dry weight.... 1oz dry pasta = 100 cals
The difference between cooked and dry pasta is water... which has no calories, of course.... but this varies depending on how long you cook it for . Start with 200 cals (2oz) dry pasta and you may end up with 4oz of pasta 'al dente' or 6oz if it's been cooked for a lot longer. But it will be 200 cals at every stage.
Thanks for the info ... I kinda thought it was dry and not cooked. Flamel, I usually try to do that as well ... but I bought some weird whole wheat pasta and it wasn't in the database so I entered in the nutritional information because I wanted to know what the nutritional grade was and how much fiber total I had for the day.
Thanks GI Jane, I didn't know that the package info was always referring to the contents "as is". That is one for me to file away and remember!
